Forza 4

Was good fun racing with everybody.

The lag accident on Laguna Seca was annoying, but not your fault. Similar things happen in GT5 when someone lags, although it's a lot worse in Forza. You kind of bounce around and if anyone is in the way of your random bouncing, their car gets insta-trashed to max damage plus knocked in whatever direction your lagged car was going. The laggy person then continues on oblivious, completely unaware they just wrecked someone.

I just get into the habit of switching collisions off as it means everyone can still race and no one has to leave or whatever.

I did have one mishap on the Le Mans race, I got hit early on by someone which kind of ruined my race, then in efforts to catch up I locked up the brakes and shunted vonhelmet (sorry!). I could have got back on the track faster and made up the position but I chose to stay on the dirt until you got off it ahead of me as that was pretty much the fairest thing I could do in the situation.

Frustrating to lose the last race on Mugello, I was comfortably ahead but decided to try and set a really fast lap time on the last lap, so I pushed it really hard through the last chicane and lost it slightly. Silly, should have just kept it safe and won comfortably!

I seem to suffer from being cautious in the corners and getting nailed off the track... I'm kinda used to it! It was gallant of you to hold back though and let me go on ahead!

Anyone got any basic techniques for drifting? I cracked it with Forza 3 but my mind is completely blank for Forza 4 since I haven't done it for over a year!

I just can't get anything to drift apart from when I hit a corner a bit too fast. Handbrake just sends me straight on. :p

POWER!

Seriously. Some people struggle with big power because they can't control the car when the turbo(s) kick in. I prefer it and I try and time when the power comes in to when I throw the car into a corner and let it sail round, then just lightly feather the throttle.

I'm not happy unless I have 700+ horsepower and I'm going sideways :D

Best is to just drive around a track like Suzuka East in a decently powered RWD car with Traction Control off.

As you go through the sweeping curves you'll naturally feel the back start to go, apply a little more power each time you go round and you'll soon get back into the swing of things.

Finesse is the key to the best drifts. Shifting the weight is important for initiation.

@Vonhelmet, I think we've all be shunted in one way or another, that's the nature of racing without consequences. No one really fears for their lives so they do take bigger risks than they would in reality.

I generally like sitting behind someone trying to find a safe passing point, although it can be very frustrating when I'm quite clearly faster than them as I am always having to ease off or apply the brakes to avoid hitting them. That's part of the fun of racing though.

I got held up a few times in some of the races when I knew I was the fastest person on the track, the races were still enjoyable and I got out in front eventually.

Most of my tuned cars seem to be out gunned on the straights which tends to allow slower drivers to reach the first corner before me, so it's quite hard to pull ahead early and I'm often having to fight through a pack, which is dangerous!

Would be nice to try some longer races too, like 10 laps or so, where consistency can shine through a bit more. Would be best to do these in slower cars so that they are more even and it's harder to make costly mistakes.

You blocked me at the last minute! I couldn't believe it! I should have sailed past you but I nailed it into the wall instead.

I didnt move one bit i was lookin behind the whole way down the straight and could see you catchin me and then about wpm off line u hit me

I need to learn this art of drifting. Plan on being online tonight though if people are game for some racing/drifting?

mmmmmm i just had right stick back lookin at your allll the way out of last corner...

drifiting is fun when you get a gooood setup, and know when you are loosing it and when your spinnin out but it is fun and fustrationg!!!

I (Bobby McQuiff) was so completely awful at everything, having not played since about a week or two after launch, and being generally rubbish. Ragequit... sorry :)

Well, everybody is welcome, I think there's fun to be had even if you're unable to challenge for the lead in most races. It's just more fun driving with others!

I felt a little bad when it was just us two as it wasn't really racing!

ill be on tonight just let me know the exact time when you lot are playing.. i hate sitting there from 8-10 and waiting for an invite.. :)
