Forza2 force feedback

No don't think i'll bother to be honest, prefer the Xbox for racing games & PC for first person shooters.

Recently, it has been reported that the Playstation 3 will feature neither Rumble nor Force Feedback. I can say from personal experience that it’s very difficult to create a high end racing simulation experience without Force Feedback. I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it would be to deliver an immersive racing experience without even rumble. Again, without Controller Rumble, even the casual racing gamer suffers.

Forza 2 > GTHD/GT4 ;)

Is there really a need? Does every thread need to go this way.
And my 2p worth is going to be yeah a full released game will be better than a game on a last gen system which is 2 years old. And a tech demo 1 track port of said game

Anyway If the force feedback is good i can't wait. I am a little dissapointed in the force feedback on the PGR3, but if it is good on Forza my wheel will be always on :D

Mate, firstly I meant to say GT5, and in comparing unreleased games based on force feedback capabilities I was actually attempting to be ironic, hence the ' ;) '

And I was surprised that quote wasn't picked up before either, I would have expected it to be jumped on straight away.

For what it' worth, I'm sure the PS3 probably can support force feedback, the PS2 managed it perfectly well with the Logitech wheel. Ok it doesn't have rumble, but rumble and FF aren't the same thing.

Every article I read about this game is like a howitworks guide to car mechanics.
It'll be pretty impressive if all this knowledge is actually translated properly in the game, could be all talk of course and it plays like NFS :p

'Playstation 3 will feature neither Rumble nor Force Feedback'

Im sure these can be added retrospectively if wanted, its the game engine that'll decide if it matters. Rumble did help gt4 from what I remember but not essential exactly.
The article makes out the console prevents either being used. .. Hope not

Some racing games only run their physics at 60 hertz – the same frequency as their graphics. This means that the in-game physics only update 60 times per second. 60 may sound pretty fast, but let me give a more concrete example. Let’s say a car is traveling at 200 mph or 98.4 meters per second. At 60 updates per second, that car travels almost 1.6 meters (5.38 feet) between each update of the physics engine. As you can imagine, a lot can happen in 1.6 meters of travel.

Good point
This would explain why some jet pilots can tell upto 400fps (and the simulators they use need to do the same). Even at 1000mph they could feel almost every metre still

I bought the MS wheel yesterday and it has made PGR3 much more fun.
I still suck badly but the wheel is very good.

Rumble and force feedback are both under patent by immersion and sony would not pay immersion to use the patent.
On another forum it has been said that the F1 game on the ps3 does not use force feedback.
To me that would spoil the game.

Gutted, I didnt realise it relied on the console to provide a channel for it as such. Cant they just hack an improvision, use an unused button for the signal or something

Tried a mates wheel the other night and he has one of those racing seats etc for it. Have to say at this stage ive been unsure about if its worth the purchase although admit being excited about its prospects in Forza 2.

Impressions:
Only tried about six races and although the impression was mostly positive i felt the FFB effects wernt strong enough in PGR 3. Maybe it was the way the guy had it setup are the FFB effects adjustable in PGR3 guys?

The wheel also suffered from a point that correcting oversteer usually resulted in over correcting particulary with the fastest RWD cars. However maybe it was my lack of practice though it did seem hard to pinpoint/feel when just enough correction was made.

Still nice to really find a difference between the 4WD and RWD only cars with throttle control and i understand that Forza 2 will be the best title to use the wheel with and properly designed and tested with it.

The main difference with Forza 2 is the physics running @ 300 fps it should provide much more feedback and sense of control compared to any other console racer before it.

The game will set new benchmarks in various ways i reckon, should be a top title for sure.

Yeah mate, it just takes time to get used to the counter steer on the wheel, but when you do its a very nice bit of kit. When the wireless receiver is released I will defo buy one so I can use it on the PC with Live For Speed etc.

That sounds pretty good, overcountering an oversteer is a classic reaction so that does sound realistic :)

Wheres that guy whose obcessed with fps, he should all over this if it does 300fps. Is that just the engine or the graphics as well? Moniter refresh rate would be the limiting factor there I guess though you can 'feel' a game engines responce even without graphics imo

Did he have the 24V adapter plugged in? The FFB is quite strong in PGR3, so strong infact that it threw my daughter clean over the sofa!....

Well maybe not but it felt good to me.

Yeah mate, likewise. I had to actually take the adapter out because it was too strong for my keyboard tray that I use the wheel on, and thought it was going to break it

Snap mate, picked one up myself yesterday after playing on my mates, i couldnt resist. Although i had to return it today and get a replacement as it made one hell of a cracking noise when i turned the wheel to the left. Thankfully the replacement works perfect :)
Cant wait to get forza and start using it with that. The force feedback is excellent even in pgr3 so i can imagine what its going to be like in forza :)g
