Someones options must have sucked if they were inclined to dig 96 feet down to the water table.
The Woodingdean one in brighton is insane. Looks so innocuous but it’s a crazy 1,290 foot deep. Deeper than the Empire State Building is tallNot that I'm a well aficionado but that is nothing compared to some of them.

Take a while to clear the rubble put of that.
We had a WW2 concrete bunker in our garden when I was a teenager. It was awesome. Just looked like a mound covered in ivy.Yeah similar experience clearing out a relatives place hence my posting - they also discovered a WW2 era bomb shelter which was kind of interesting - proper job about 20 foot underground and 2 good size rooms (sadly they filled it with rubble).

It still had a wardens hat in it, so I’d imagine it was used by quite a few people rather than just one family. My dad initially wanted it gone, but was told (I don’t know how accurately) that it was so thick and deep that it would have to be blown out, and that was not feasible in a dense residential area.
