As title says, found the phone lastnight while using the cash machine, it has no pass code lock, no contacts, pictures texts etc, has no apple ID.

Basically a brand new phone, I've rang my own number from the phone and it has a working connection, so what can I do to return it?

I don't have a day off until next Friday so can't get to an apple store either.

Hand it in to your local police station, get a receipt for it.

It might have been remote wiped if there is no history on it but I would have expected someone to be in the area looking for it as it would have also shown the approx location of it.

Hand it in at the cop shop and wait however long it takes for them to not be contacted and it defaults to being yours.

Go to Mum or Mother in contacts & ring them, If no Mum or Mother then check the call history & ring the most recent number/numbers to find the owner.
If you did this for me I'd give you some Beer tokens.

Could open Maps and see if he had any locations stored such as postcodes etc? Probability of it being remote wiped are high if it's clean.

This happened to me years ago when my gf borrowed my phone and lost it on the tube in London. Someone found it and rang my mum, who then rang me to tell me what had happened. Shortly afterward the gf rang me from a pay phone to let me know she'd lost my phone and was obviously upset. When I told her I already knew she was totally confused :D

Take it to whoever the service provider is, local store. They will be able to instantly check the imei against their records, and see who's phone it is, and hopefully, they should have alternative contact method for them on there.
