Ive been looking for a new video card to play BF3,Deus-Ex and a few more titles due out soon and have been advised to look at cards like the 5870,6850,6870 or GTX460,GTX560

Looking around the auction sites i found this and was wondering if i should take a leap of faith with it

Up for auction is a FAULTY AMD XFX 6870 1GB GRAPHICS CARD. HD-687A-ZNFC
The card comes fully retail boxed with all original accessories like driver dvi crossfire bridge etc. The card its self and the box still look like brand new and all accessories have never been opened.

Now... (From cold boot) The fault with the card is when the clocks are set to the default in the catalyst and you go into a game or even running a benchmark it will kick out of it straight away, then up pops an error saying "Display driver stopped responding but has recovered" The card will not run anything until it has warmed up which takes about 5 minutes, once its reached a higher temp like 35-40 degrees the card will then run anything!!! Any game any benchmark and even in Furmark the card is very stable. Very odd!!

Now from reading this would suggest once the system is on and been running for a short time the card performs as it should out of the box.
It would also suggest that if i was to clock the card it should work fine without any problems.

ALL told the price would be less than £90 including P&P should i go for it

Don't but it, you should be able to get a fully working one for that price, I sold an Asus 5870 reference that was in as new condition fully boxed and with warranty for over a year remaining for £135 delivered special delivery £23 that cost to send and it is a lot better card then the 6870 and it was not faulty or had any problems. Check the members market or put up a wanted thread. Avoid a card with a fault that can only get worse it sounds like a faulty component to me on that card and it's not going to get better. It will cause you stress and you will realise later you threw away £90 that could have been better invested in a 100% working or even new card and there is a risk when it decides to totally fail it may take out your system with it.
