Basically i'm almost there for getting my first gaming pc, anyhow with the GPU i keep seeing the founders edition version of the 1080, now would the founders edition be better than a vendor's version of card? i'm really confused if I should just spend that bit extra to get basically the card to how Nvidia designed it to look.

You havent done much research which for me would be a must if you're spending that kind of money on a GPU

The Founders Edition is just a new name for "Reference" which traditionally means the manufacturers original version of the card with a cheap blower cooler and all the issues a cheap blower cooler brings such as sub par cooling performance and noise only this time its for an inflated price which is crazy really

Only advantages a reference cooler has if you can put up with the noise is the air is exhausted straight out of the case, this is also better for SLI

The founders edition makes absolutely no sense to me.

None references cards are due to start trickling in at lower prices (And to quite an extent)

I'd just wait.

There is so much information out there in regards to GPU's it's kind of hard to get what the hell is going on, will admit me understanding GPU's is my weakest area, so I basically should save some money then and go for a custom card?

Absolutely. A custom card will be better cooled, quieter, more overclockable. The Founders edition is just a ruse to milk early adopters and those that think it's cool to be a "Founder" (a founder of what exactly?).

Also, if you're gaming at 1080p or 1440p then you will likely find the Nvidia 1070 is a much better purchase than the 1080 - much lower cost, lower power consumption, only about 15-20% less grunt. For 4k gaming then the 1080 is the better option.
