(FOV) Field of View - Thread

Great video, I hope people follow his advice not to buy games without FOV options, regardless of whether you can change within a config file. It is a basic feature required by many people including myself and it not being included is sickening.

When I first started PC gaming I didn't realise the problem initially, starting out playing css, then moving on to other games I soon realised something was wrong. I now expect this feature in every game I play.

It's guaranteed there are people who do not realise this is the root of their problems, so this issue needs more publicity.

I had to change my BF3 FOV from the default one as I found it difficult to see whether I had equipped a grenade or a knife, while running. The standardised console FOV that we see so often really bugs me because I played Q3 for years at something like 110 FOV.

I have to change my FOV on pretty much every game I play nowadays. It was nice how in Deux Ex:HR it was easy to change. I had to do some research to figure out how to change it in Skyrim though which was a bit of a pain, they could have just included it as an option.

Didn't 2k give excuses for FoV on Bioshock too, they can get stuffed from me buying games from them again if they give out petty reasons to not sort out bad FoV in their games. Darkness 2 is probably the worse case I've seen in ages, I have never had problems with feeling sick before or anything but in that game I genuinely begin to feel ill after 10 minutes, Its like walking around with binoculars taped to your face.

Also annoys the **** outta me having to google and edit files to change FoV like Skyrim recently.

And why do devs lie or talk **** as a reason it's not put in

Well, to be fair, a none savy community rep who knows naff all who was told one thing then explained it in a way her brain could comprehend which made the situation worse then backtracked. BIG TIME.

Bulletstorm is another game which has really bad fov :(

Played it 2 seconds before I had too change the FOV, although running 3 screens so not sure if it was just that

I couldn't even get that crap game to work on my PC, drove me absolutely nuts.

It had quite a few problems. I reinstalled it on my brothers PC a few months ago and it kept crashing because there was no "Stereo Mix" enabled in the windows sound settings.

However once it was working it was fine. It's one of the few good games, if you can get it working. I think some tweaking was required to get the FOV changed.

Bought Dead Space today, as it was cheap on Steam and I'd heard good things. Only had a short time to play it so far this evening, but is there a way to change the FoV in this game? It's almost off-putting at how restrictive it is!

My understanding was that lower FOV suited console gameplay more, as the user is often sat a lot further away from the screen. More console ports = more games with lower FOV.

I don't like it. I used to play Enemy Territory with an FOV toggled between 90 and 120, 90 being for long distance shooting, 120 for everything else. 90 and above is much better suited to PC gameplay, but some devs seem to have forgotten this.

I suffer from this

Certain games I cannot play because of the limited FOV .. it makes me boke
after about 20 mins :(
