A firend was cleaning out his PC and removed the gfx card to clean that also (8800GTS) put it back in and heard a crack....eeek, apparantely wasn't easy to get back in due to stupid case clips for pcie.

Since then hes had a lot of problems. The ethernet port wouldn't work (tried reinstall driver) and the graphics said it was in standard vga mode.

So it lead me to believe it could possibly be the motherboard that made the crack sound.

Anyway i said I'd pop trhough and have a look.

Firts thoughts was to do a reinstall of Vista as it didn't look like a hard ware fault to me, no visible damage anywhere.

So i started to install vista, puth the disc in rebooted but everything was like it was running extremley slow, put it this way we were looking at a 4-6hr install.

So he was now certain that it must be the mobo, so today he purchased the P35A from Foxconn. So we whipped out the board found noting on inspection and put in the new.

The system would start up but there was nothing on screen, just blank.

We tried a fiew thing to get it working but to no avail....until i thought lets try it with 1 stick of memory (Geil 800mhz ull) and it booted so went straight into bios to set the correct voltage for the ram (2.1v) saved and rebooted to find it wouldn't save the voltage setting and was coming up with a cmos error "press F1 to enter bios" or "F2" to continue..

Tried many things but can't get it sorted. So then tied installing vista on 2gb of ram but then got a hard ware error and had to reboot, must be not enough voltage to the ram as it needs 2.1v.

So can't install Vista, can't set ram to correct voltage. So then looked to update the bios but doing so is very risky as the ram voltage won't change and if it errors during a bios flash then the mobos *******.

This has totaly stumped us both and don't know what to do now.

Anybody advise?

Maybe the CMOS battery is dead on the new mobo. This would explain why it isn't saving the bios settings. Is the system clock running ok?

We st the clock and rebooted and its still keeping the time, we changed the battery also but the bios still isnt saving and changes in settings.

I think the motherboard is possibly faulty.

UPDATE:

We exchanged the motherboard (was a faulty bios chip). So rebuilt the system booted straight away, went into bios set the right memory & cpu voltage. We then set the boot order to install the operating system. started checking the system files then we get an error. "Windows failed to load because the firmware (BIOS) is not ACPI
compatible there may be a bios update to fix this"

Ok so thought a second then went into bios turned ACPI off in bios and then booted into the disc again. So far so good, checked all the files and then a blue screen saying

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is
missing or corrupt."

Now i think a bios update or a faulty cpu as everything else on the system has been tested.

Help?
