Still, even if youre good with a pad, you are still at a massive disadvantage.
A good player on a pad will most likely loose against a normal/rubbish player with KB & M

The answer to the ops question is simple, learn to play a fps with KB & M or don't play FPS's on a PC

Do you really wanna open this can of worms? ;)
Serious question though.: Why on earth would you want to do that?

lol, it's not me, it's a mate with a laptop who cannot get on with the old wasd set up.

I keep telling him that keyboard and mouse is the only way to go but he keeps coming back with 'when i had a xbox................................etc etc etc'

You should tell him that when he had an Xbox he was on equal ground with other Xbox players, if those other Xbox players had a keyboard and mouse they would've owned him. :p

^^ Hehe indeed.
I can understand if he has issues with a laptop keyboard, I have a laptop for work, and I keep missing the friggin keys ... think my fingers are too clumsy.
Tell him to get a £20 Logitech KB, plug it into the Lappy, and have him give it 2 weeks or so.
I remember, I never used to havea pc as a kid/high school/uni, so when I bought my first one, I was exactly like him.
The fist PC game I ever played, was Unreal 2 (not tourny) and I kept pressing all the wrong buttons, but stuck to it for a couple of weeks.
Now I cannot imagine why you would gimp yourself like that.

Either get him a KB, OR.. LET HIM get a pad, make him play UT04 (has pad support).
When he cries and bleeds from his eyes asking "why are all these guys shooting me, and why can't I see them" you know what the answer is to his question :P

Think that means it has pad support?

I use to have a Microsft Dual Action game pad (I think that is what it was called) that had a ball in the middle of it and you twisted it and it acted as a mouse. I played many FPS with it and it was great fun, and you could get headshots with it too. Not available anymore, but you could try to find one second hand.

Dual Strike, pretty much the only PC gamepad I have ever liked. :)

Gamepad + UT2004 = 0 kills and many many deaths.... :D

Although i'm secretly hoping that UT2K7 will be good on the 360 :)

Don't bother trying anything but a mouse for an FPS on a PC, as they're made to be played with Mice and a Keyboard. If on a console, it's made to be played with a Pad, so it'll be optimized for that. Some people are sad enough to buy a mouse and keyboard for their console, instead of getting the game itself on PC, and this is just stupid, as they could just play it on the PC, and it would be much, much better. I have only ever experienced one game where it is better to aim on the console with a Pad, and that was Halo. Halo 2, for some reason, I could not get the hang of. It's still awesome on PC, but it was made for Xbox, and so forever it will be better on the box that is Microsoft's ugly baby.
