FPS cap with no input lag? (Gysnc)

Thanks, I never did that on my old system though, not that I can remember anyhow lol

NVIDIA say its the thing to do if you have G-Sync. I have used it for a while and it works well. Stops the GPU running away with itself. It's more reliable than any other method I have ever tried using.

Not doing it that way, i.e allowing the GPU to run at 100% and above screen refresh doesn't just waste resource and create heat/noise it actually creates horrible screen tearing & stutter. I've always run Gsync with a cap slightly below refresh.

Well I just tried it with GSync on and NCP max frame rate to 97 and it was horribly stuttery. Would that mean I need to change it to 98 or 99?

Ideally you want to use in game limiters but where they don't exist I would use RTSS to cap or just suck it up and play with the 100Hz vsync lag (less annoying than 60hz input lag but may still be too annoying for some games)

What kind of Gsync setting do you have, full screen in NCP? It sounds like you're playing windowed or borderless in game?
It's set to full screen and windowed and the game is set to borderless. I know those settings don't make much sense but that's what I was using on my old setup so had to do the same here just so I had a direct comparison.

I dont know if it works in MP - just tested in SP but you can open console in BFV and set Gametime.MaxVariableFps 97

Cool, might be worth a look also then.

I'm not really too bothered about BFV as such as it's end of life now and does run OK on my new kit, it just behaves a little weird as I mentioned above. I was more concerned that something wasn't working right or setup right on the new parts, like BIOS CPU settings or PSU not having enough power and somehow the CPU was underperforming which was bringing the GPU useage down. But it seems to play Cyberpunk ok (99% GPU useage, average 80fps with Ray tracing (medium) and Ultra/High graphics etc so I guess it's all working as it should, apart from the fluctuations and stutter in BFV.

for minimal input lag, you must aim for <%90 gpu usage and put a frame limit accordingly

dx12 games suffer from severe input lag at %99 gpu utilization. just a fyi

nvidia reflex kinda solves the issue, but sadly its not present on cyberpunk

is there any kind of nvidia representative in this forum? i've put out hundreds of emails, contacted their reddit moderators, opened a couple of tickets. nvidia reflex should be made possible to be activated across all dx12 games. or we should be allowed to use 1 pre render frame in dx12 games. i simply cant bare %99 gpu usage input lag

Weird, my GPU usage has always been 99% and I've never found any input lag at all.

well to experience what i say, you must experience non %99 load to begin with

best you can do is to put a framelimit below what you get, lets say u get 130 fps at %99 gpu sage, try limiting at 110 fps and see if it is more responsive and snappy

it is always more responsive and snappy for me. i don't know why or if it is exclusive to me or some sorts. i would like others to test it out but this is not a snake oil because battle/non/sense actually proved that %99 gpu usage had like %40 45 more input lag so my experience correlated to his findings. since then, in every game i tried, this proved to be true, for me

Interesting, I did try a max FPS cap to 97 in NVCP max frame rate limiter earlier and BFV was so jerky I immediately had to revert back.

Check out a little program called display changer

You can alter the cap via the command line, and create a shortcut on the desktop ie C:\dc\dc64cmd.exe -refresh=165

It saves clicking through Nvidia control panel.

Try rivatuner instead, some games react differently to different kind of frame limiters

some games do not like rivatuner, some like riva more

I tried that yesterday and it made no difference, I don't know why I had my old system set to borderless but I set my new one the same yesterday just so I could have a direct comparison.

Try NVCP setting to full screen only and game to full screen - if you still get tearing then note what the FPS is.
