i am getting massive FPS drops in black ops 3.

all setting are on max and when i am out in the open i get a Rock solid 60FPS(vsync is on), but if i go indoors i get an instant drop to 30ish FPS and some frame stutter.

When i was gong throw the setting i found two options that confused me so i set to max ;).

First was resolution: 2,560 x 1,440
seconds was render resolution: 1280 x 720
i changed the render resolution: 2,560 x 1,440. could this be what is giving me the frame drops when i go indoors where there is more to render
 
Something isn't right here on my single 290 @1440p and i7 3770k I keep close to 80fps cap I have set..
I don't use vsync though has I have Freesync have you tired without vsync?

i have not but i will do
what do you have the render resolution set to. it will default to 720p unless you have changed it.
 
right i set cap top 240fps and removed the option a sync ever frame.
i see a average of around 75fps and drops to around 50fps but still some stutter when i go indoors
 
I not tried latest version that was released yesterday I also can't remember if I running max settings or couple lower like AA

This on nvidia or amd see you have two sigs. I'll try tonight and report back
 
yer i reset setting and put AA down one set. i now see 145FPS and no dropps or stutter.

also my nvidia gpu now sits at 67c not 89c
 
Which vsync are you using? In game, or via control panel? If in game then set it to off and force it via driver and also triple buffering. You can also use Rivatuner to limit fps to 1 below refresh rate which is meant to help with vsync associated input lag, although I find it difficult to motice difference.

I haven't played BLOPS 3, but just a few general suggestions.

It sounds as though the game is using a double buffer vsync method, which to my limited understanding means any time the gpu cannot render 60 or higher then it will drop to half the refresh rate 30hz=30fps.

then i can only assume your 290 is better than my 780ti, or its something to do with freesync doing good for the fps.
card is at stock speed until i sort of a water setup
 
i will have a google latter and see if there is a driver problem or if its the game update not playing nice with my system.

the problem i have is i have no base line because i only just installed the game the other day.
 
black ops 3 has been a massive ball ache for me too, on my i5 4690k 4.5ghz and 980 Ti at 1440p it would stutter like there was no tomorrow now I've upgraded to an i7-4790k 4.7ghz and there's no stutter at all even at 4k and 1440p. given up on the cod series tbh

yer i just dropped the render res down one step now all is good.
 
Uploading some gameplay now @1440p I stay around 70/80fps all in game settings are on default by the game for a 290.. Recorded also in game settings to show you what I using.

I think i may have found a problem i will have been having, today i removed my stock looker from my 780ti to fit an hg10 and h110. when i removed the cooler i got a funny smell so i went to the wile and said smell this.

Her reply was WHY DOSE IT SMELL OF TOOTHPASTE.......
the thermal paste was white and had the feel of smei dry toothpaste like when the darling kids get it all other the basin.
i think the last idiot that had hit use toothpaste to refit cooler just befit selling. i have heard of this but never seen it.


i have also noticed that after a round when i drop into the lobby the temp go nuts.
