fps drops

some reason when playing certain games im getting fps drops. i thinks its down the high cpu usage but dont know why im getting it. i have a i5 4460 and i even get fps drops on tf2 with a gtx 970.

project cars seems to do it aswell but i noticed the witcher 3 doesnt do it and thats on all ultra settings.

What sort of FPS drops are these

?

Are you going from example 60 fps to 52fps or do you mean a large fps drop example from 60 fps to 5 fps for a few seconds and then back?

well tf2 is 60 to about 40 and project cars just does a total freeze for a second

I would recommend installing CoreTemp so that you can monitor temperature of the CPU, open it up and play one of the games until it drops fps, then leave game and check what the maximum temperature recorded was.

If it gets to a certain threshold in temperature it may be possible that the cpu is throttling back to bring temperatures back down.

i use afterburner and it shows doing project cars about 40c

i think it could be because i have all my games on my portable hard drive and it goes to sleep when its not being used.it doesn't affect the witcher because that game is constantly loading.

well i put it on my internal drive and its still doing it
