FPS Games for PC or Console?

Someone needs to make a cross platform fps game(experiment) to settle this once and for all.

10 top PC players vs 10 top console players.

Then we will all know which is the most competitive control and after people can just use what they prefer.

Doesn't need settling... any half competent KB+M player will utterly thrash the best joypad player out there no if or buts at an fps game. Theres a video that was linked in one of the threads here of someones using XIM3 and even tho thats less than ideal they still utterly nailed the console players over and over.

That would only indicate which method is easier to use.

I prefer online fps on the PC - it's easier to aim quickly with a mouse and the contest becomes more about reactions and situational awareness than having to carefully take aim and shoot. For single player games I tend to prefer playing on consoles - largely due analogue movement, but also because I like how aiming with a pad feels more measured, more like firing a real weapon. Rumble and trigger buttons are another bonus. Anything that demands twitch shooting and fast movement has to be on the pc, however :)

I would expect top console players to do very well. A good gamer is a good gamer no matter which platform.

Fact is though that FPS's are for mouse and keyboard.

Goldeneye and Timesplitters (etc etc) are great with a pad, but this genre is for mouse and keyboard.

The players abilities on any given platform are no better or worse because of the platform of choice. The point is, as long as it's mouise vs mouse and pad vs pad then there is ZERO advantage or disadvantage to be had in any situation.

It only becomes an issue if you combine the two in one game.
2 identical cars having a drag race is fine, but if one of them has a 2 second better acceleration 0-60 then ain't no way it's going to win. Unless the driver is a pro and the other is an old granny.
But if you are used to driving the faster car, it does not at all make you a better driver.

So, where this debate comes form is beyond me. It's completely irrelevant.

The only possible reason for PC gamers being better than console gamers is that there are possibly more PC gamers who take it deadly serious. So by law of averages you will probably have more top players on PC than console. As to who has the best of the best, it could be any.

What would make a more worthy point as to which to play would surely be the graphical, texture and lighting advantage the PC FPS would have over the console.
I still think BF3 looks great on console, but there is no denying that it does look a fair amount better on PC. Which leads me to say how disgusing it is of Microsoft and Sony to release PC trailers on their respevtive stores. Surely that comes under false advtertising as plenty people won't know it's PC graphics on display.

hi, i play my fps games on ps3 atm and i dont really like that there is no interraction with other players on it, like barely anybody has mic's on ps3 so i see myself getting bored of bf3 or cod on ps3, do people talk a lot on the pc fps games? i play wow and the only reason i still play is because i enjoy talking to other people.

2nd, is there much difference between fps games on pc and console fps games?
is the gameplay better one one of them?

3rd, if i were to get bf3 would my current setup work, my pc spec is in my signature any advice is much appreciated as i would be interested in buying it on pc.

1. As people have said join a community, there are tons out there! :)
2. Difference is (as I see it) a lot more customisation on the PC i.e. dedicated servers etc but with that requires a lot more hassle when it comes to computer components vs performance etc. In terms of KB + Mouse vs gamepad, it's just a matter of getting used to one or the other.
3. Personally, I'll be buying BF3 on my 360, I'm bored of farting around with worrying about computer specs to play the latest titles!

I used to be purely a console player, owning ps3 and xbox. I made a lot more friends and enjoyed games more (multiplayer) on xbox.

I found the ps3 community to be lacking compared to xbox live on bfbc2 and mw2. I have to say only recently have I bought bc2 on pc and played online and it has taken the game to another level in every aspect. I am now sold on pc fps. :)

(although I like to use my xbox pad on some titles).

For a long time i would have said console for fps and dare say any game, as back then i could not figure or deal with keyboard and mice.

But now had a lot more practice and got the right gear, and i gotta say it make sense. Only issue is many of my friends are console gamers, as of the expense of pc gaming in there eyes or there not fps nutts haaa.

Based on my experience you don't get a lot of talking on PC unless you are playing in organised games with a clan or friends. It is clearly better as a FPS platform but if it is interaction you want then I don't see that as a viable reason to switch, worth being in mind that not all PC games have built in voice comms too.

Yeah the issue with controllers is once you've pushed the thumbstick as far as it'll go, that's the maximum speed you can turn around. With a mouse I can turn maybe 3 times in a single swipe across my mousepad as quickly as I like. That's part of the reason why cross-platform FPSs never panned out.

That being said, everyone's on a far more level playing field with consoles as everyone's using pretty much the same hardware with the same sensitivity. Superior and more expensive hardware, more sensitive & accurate mice etc. on PC can give a possible advantage over other players, as can the performance of the system.

I could never go back to consoles... playing a FPS on a 360 just feels shocking now. There's something a lot more frantic and at the same time more difficult to playing shooters on a PC, it's on a whole other level.

The social aspect for me is a lot worse on PC, because none of my mates are PC gamers. Xbox especially has an awesome system for voice comms and stuff... for games like Battlefield this can make a huge difference to how enjoyable the game is and how well you do.
