I play a game called Team Fortress Classic (1999). Here is 20sec vid of my friends FPS in TFC. Notice how it is solid 2505. Mine isn't like that. Mine flickers really fast from what looks like 240-250 even when I am completely still, not doing anything. Here is another short vid of gameplay. My TFC doesn't feel as smooth as that..

-I have tried 3 drivers for the Nvidia 470. 258.96 then 260.89 and now
260.99 which relesed yesterday. All felt exaclty the same. I have Nvidia's 3D settings set to "Let the application decide"
-Game on 1 core.

My system is better than his:
-"Titan Xenomorph" Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz @ 4.20GHz Nvidia 470 Edition DDR3 System.
-Barracuda 1TB.
-64bit Win 7

His Specs:
-AMD 955 Black Edition 3.2GHZ Quad core
-HD5770 1GB DDR5 Graphics
-WD640GB 32MB cache HD

Any ideas?

Thanks.

what is the cpu usage like when you are playing the game? I notice you have a dual core and your friend has a quad, also do you play with HT on?

It is awkward to measure. When it comes out of game to bring Task Manager in view, it goes from 50ish% to 5ish%.

Hyper Threading. I'm not sure, I couldn't see it in Bios. Maybe I missed it, I will double check later.

Thanks for the response.

60Hz refresh rate. Vsync off, obviously.

Can I notice it? The little flicks, no. But my TFC feels a bit choppy compared to that "hellion tricks" vid.

Dunno,

Have you spoken to OCUK about it?

I can't think of any reason why FPS would fluctuate like that on an 11 year old game.

Maybe CPU/HDD is causing it?

When did you buy the Xenomorph?

If your monitor's refresh rate is 60Hz, then it can't actually display more than 60fps- the extra is wasted. It shouldn't really be affecting you at all.

Hyperthreading is the only thing I can think of as well- if your CPUs are both only using 1 core, your i3 should far outshine his x4. Your HDD is slower than his, which might be causing a FPS fluctuation, but I can't imagine TFC would struggle because of it.

The only other option could be that the game simply prefers ATi (well, AMD now) graphics cards to nVidia ones. They are designed in different ways and there are games that perform differently accordingly, but I can't comment on TFC in particular.

Yes, but they haven't got back for a few days now.

Here's a theory on another forum:
100 isn't syncing with your monitor's refresh rate too well. Try using a refresh rate and fps that sync up (at least a little). If you're using 100 fps, try using 75hz.

And my response:
Ah great, that sounds plausible...

The MAX my monitor goes is 60Hz or 59Hz. I do have the driver installed although it doesn't make a difference.

FYI, I have had two same spec but different brand monitors side by side. The the picture they gave both looked identical. The 2nd display is the one my "friend" uses.

Mine: lg flatron w2261vp-pf
Friends: Samsung P2250 22" 2ms DVI Full HD LCD Monitor

Res: x1080. Tried lowest, just the same.

Rates: 29Hz Interlaced, 30HZ Interlaced, 59Hz, 60Hz. Tired 59, just the same.

Just realised the game is multiplayer! It could be internet connection speeds affecting it!

Genius. Feel like an idiot for not thinking of this one!

Obviously, even if you're LAN gaming, there's vast differences in adapters, and wireless is just a cluster of confusion. Are your network adapter drivers up-to-date?

You haven't really said what resolution your friend plays on, unless it's also 1080p.
Have you checked the i3 is running at 4.2ghz? Is your friend's 955 overclocked? Use CPUZ in windows to check.
Does he play on the same detail settings as you?
What windows version do you have? Shouldn't really affect it but it might be possible the game prefers a 32bit OS... Although the chances of this is really low.
Also, maybe try swap monitors with him and see what happens?
I would try the monitor on another system as well, to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Could find out where the flicker is coming from. You say it "feels" the FPS is 240-250, have you tried something like MSI Afterburner to check the actual FPS?
Also, how much RAM do you have, and how much does your friend have?

Have you actually tried turning vsync on? If your fps is that much more than the screens refresh rate you're prob getting awful tearing, try turning it on and see

Seeing as I doubt any of you play the game in question (maybe you do)

I do play it.

I have a different but overpowered spec machine for the game (1998)

He has more than enough RAM, CPU power, gfx card (obviously)

So does his friend.

But his friend and I can both have a solid 250fps without it moving when standing still doing nothing on LAN/Online

Going over 60fps to some of you might make no difference but in this game it does. The manoevering (which is MOST of the gameplay) is very fast and intricate so that if you play with 60fps it's just not right. So ppl play with 100fps most commonly or 250fps.

The fact that you are fluctuating at all to me shows that something is wrong. I just can't think what....time to send it back to ocuk methinks.
