Ive got everthing ramped up res is 1920x1080, its probably nothing to worry about but i was in i think no mercy map, when the zombies came my frame rates went from a steady 60 fps to just about 20, this game is hardly taxing for my card, isnt it?

Here is my spec
P5Q Deluxe
Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3000Mhz
8Gb Kingston Hyper Ram
XFX 4890
WD SATA Black 640GIG HD
OCZ 700W PSU

Any help would be great

I noticed low frame rates on the rooftop finale.
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3330MHz
4GB Ram
8800 GTX SLI

I have now upgraded to a single 285 GTX and it is much better, I am only running at 1680x1050 however. (maxed out)

u shud get an xbox 360 ;) L4D is better on it

I beg to differ. L4D on PC has slightly better graphics, higher frame rate (usually, )more mods, plus the downloadable content is free unlike for Xbox.

But I digress, I'm not sure what the problem is, is it only that map or does it affect the entire game?

It's not taxing your card, the lower frame rates are because you CPU is dual core, although it's fast, Left4Dead runs better on quad core systems.

Before I upgrade my E6750, overclocked to 3.2GHz, to a Q9550 I used to get slow down during zombie hordes. Now I have a quad core CPU, the slow down during zombie hordes has gone.

It might also be worth turning vertical sync off. That way your frame rates will be well over 100 and will have further to fall when the zombie horde arrives.

your card is good enough to play this game at max everything...i used to play it on an old p4 7800gt gpu before i built my rig, maybe its your driver of your graphics card

It does not work like that, if you are getting 100 fps then it will not matter if you have vsync off or on, it still ends up at the same min fps.

you also may get tearing if you're getting 60+

although if your card cannot maintain a 60 fps vsync can half frame rate which may be causing this problem.

so it's worth a try turned off.

L4D gets very little (if any) tearing, on my GTX260 I see no tearing at all but do see mouse lag with Vsync turned on which is a common result of Vsynch being left on in games that don#t support hardware mouse acceleration (Crysis does for example).

pfft 8v8 and custom maps > xbox.

I beg to not differ, lol :D

Clock the CPU to 4Ghz, I have basicly the same setup. I sometimes get fps drop if the server Im on is not good.

but generaly its all fine.

Thanks for all the advice guys, turned v-sync off frames seem to be ok, although their are low fps in certain areas or an area when the zombies all come running, i see about 40fps lowest and about 150 high so i cant complain.

Cheers
