I doubt Fractal used different quality materials between R3 and XL though, that's the thing. If you've not had a LIan-Li or something and bought the Fractal it would seem great but once you've had a premium case like this the differences are immediate!
That's exactly it. I don't consider Fractal XL to be a Premium build. It's not a Lian Li, Silverstone, etc with an aluminnium finish. It's meant to be a silent case with really heavy noise absorbing materialed (if that's a word) panels.
The define R3 has got really good reviews.
