fractal r3 - this doesnt look right...

My White R3 that was delivered last week has the exact same damage to that top rear thumb screw.

I just gripped it really hard and bent it back, this wasn't difficult and I only did it because there was no way I could be without a case at the time.

Get it sent back if you're not happy mate, this is definitely damage and you're not alone.

Yeah, the packaging did seem inadequate with my define mini.
From the holes in the side of the box for handles, the base of the case was bare and exposed. The foam supports were also quite thin and dense.

I have to say something, my usb front panel cable didnt work, so they gave me a free fan and a replacement cable.the replacement dont work either... what do ?

I was considering an R3, for quietness, until I read this. How quiet would the Lancool be in comparison?

The Lancool seems to have some quality contorl issues, cracked perspex etc.

Blonkster

Not seen many complaints only that one review on the ocuk page.
Well it's basically a lian li.

You could always take a risk on an r3 or xl again just adding the k62 as an alternative in the price range no wont be as quiet as the r3 but according to people in the know ie people that build a lot of systems the k62 is the best built. It comes with 3x140mm fans and a 120mm if You ran 1x 140mm front 1x 120mm rear and only 1x140mm top exhaust I'd imagine it's going to be pretty quiet but then stock case fans are never the best.

replacement was delivered today at work - took one look at the back and saw thumb screw shaped pimples in the packaging - refused it straight away.

said they can either send a replacement with additional packaging, or they can refund me.

e: to clarify, I said that ^^, and am awaiting response.

Never heard of any case manufacturer having more problems (or any problems!) with packaging than fractal.

How exactly do they pack their cases - do they use any moulded polystyrene at all?!!

It's not packeting it's assembly.

I just had a white R3 delivered and one of the panels has the same problem.

The way the panel attaches to the case is a downward and upward facing metal hook (or lip) on the bottom and top respectively. The case has, at regular intervals, rectangles cut with a thin space travelling on from one edge.

Looks like the assemblers just push the panel in, and tighten the screw for all they are worth. Unless it's properly slotted into the grove, a bent panel is the result. I think fractal might need to look at who's in charge of the manufacturing floor.

Fractal are sending me a new panel. I'm not going to chance a replacement case.

On the flip side, I had a fractal sitting in my office for months before I opened the box and it was perfect. Very happy with the case.

The one complaint I have is those rubber grommets are way too easy to pop out of the hole, so when it comes to threading cables behind the motherboard, you'll need patience.

Click the "PC" in my sig for build thread :)

I'm with Sparky on this one.

The box my White R3 came in was literally perfect, not so much as a scuff mark to be seen.

The rear offside panel however was very much dented where the top thumbscrew is placed. Either they employ gorillas that slam the cases together or idiots that drop them on their rear thumbscrews.

I would still recommend this case though, easy to build in to, can be configured for excellent silence or excellent cooling or some middle ground and in the sub £100 market I don't think there are that many other choices for a serious build.

It is the packing! The thumbscrews rest on the floor inside the box, because there is no polystyrene/foam around them. So whenever someone moves the box and drops it on the floor for the last 3-6inches, it bounces on the thumb screws every single time.
