Fragmentation annoyance

Ok i have xp on my 320gb hdd and vista on my raptor x, now when i run my defrag utility [O&O] it shows the xp drive as being fully defragmented but the vista drive as being 30% fragmented, no matter how many times i defrag it, it stays the same ?

Try running each defrag operation from within the individual OS, ie when you defrag XP, run the defrag program from within XP, likewise when you defrag Vista, make sure it is run from within Vista, or is this what you are doing?

well i just defragged vista from xp and the other way around and theyre both at 0% fragmentation, weird but it works

That works because all the files that are normally locked and thus immovable are not being used while the other OS is running, allowing to defrag all the not running OS files just like normal data files by the active one. Nice.
