I am going to visit my friend in Frankfurt for 4 days in May. I know it is not the most exciting of cities but can anyone recommend things to do?

We're thinking about hiring a car for the day so we don't mind traveling to areas of interest.

Drive the autobarn and go to the ring :D

Dont forget to eat 2 stakes a plate of chips a beer and a sunday :p

I'm looking forward to the autobarn but not sure about rental cars and the ring.

The brothels there :D:p. Tbh when i was there a few yrs ago i didnt find the place to be overly exciting, ended up driving to amsterdam instead to find some fun and frolics.

I really don't think the nurburgring will be high on our list of things to do as it's 3 girls going.

I would love to do it, I wouldn't want my friend to do it (bad driver) and the other one can't drive. So would be a bit boring for them to watch me drive around ... but we could firt with the rich guys in the fancy cars.

I used to live in Frankfurt and it's not a party town. Highlights include the German Postal Museum (it's a hoot - I promise!) and Alt Sachsenhausen where you sit on long benches and drink the Apfelwein and eat the Wuerst.

There are not many great gastronomical experiences - Pizza is pretty safe after the Apfelwein bars and there is a fantastic place where they serve whole raw steaks and you have a hot stone to cook it yourself. It sounds odd, but it's great crack. Any taxi driver will take you there.

You could catch the fast train to Wuerzburg - it's very scenic and it has a good castle and palace/art museum.

Try a walk down by the Main - it's not massively exciting, but it can be very pleasant to wander along with the barges drifting by.

If you do go out on the Autobahn then remember that they are used to driving at 200km/h. You're not. Build up to it and remember to brake early and smoothly. There will be a German nutter tailgating you and flashing his headlamps.

And the 'ring is DANGEROUS. Avoid if you've never driven on a track before, and your hire car insurance will not cover you. Seriously, you'll be grannying around and you'll just annoy the people who are there on a mission to do a personal best. I know. They come and find you afterwards to explain the error of your ways to you.
