Fraps lag

For some reason Fraps really slows down my gameplay when recording. I've tried changing the settings to the lowest (half-size, 30 fps) and it's still lagging whenever I try recording. I've been trying it on MW2 and it doesn't cause huge lag, but it's still very noticeable. Anybody got any tips?

Specs;

i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
2x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB)
22" monitor (1680x1050)
Win 7 64-bit

hmm , never really noticed a hit when frapsing myself (I record a lot for our clan)
Are you using ver 2.9.9 ?

What I do to make it faster is the way my drives are configured
drive1 = OS
drive2 = games
drive3=capture drive for fraps vids

Also I have my i7 920 @ 3.78Gig , which could make a difference , Iam recording arma2 missions , and that game is DAMN heavy on resources.

Running version 3.0.3.

I have an SSD for my OS, 1 HDD for storage and another HDD for programs and games (including Fraps and MW2). I guess I could try recording onto another HDD, different to my games HDD.

Disk access is the mostly likely cause of the problem imo.

I'd do as suggested and try recording to another disk.

Hmm, just tried it on my other storage disk (not in use by anything else at the time) and it's still happening. It's not exactly lag, it's just really sluggish and slow, I'm not getting skipped frames or anything, just seems really unresponsive, which is obviously not good when playing an FPS.

The recordings come out fine, it's just the gameplay that's really laggy.

It's working now, just changed the fps limit to 60 and it's working pretty much fine. A few spikes here and there but overall it's okay.

Just leave it at 60fps, the reason for the "lag" is because it was recording at 30....

You're not going to upload the Fraps video to Youtube anyway as it will be too large in filesize anyway so will obviously get converted at which point it will be 30fps (or 24 if you're converting to 720P).

Windows Movie Maker etc all support Fraps video importing and exporting to SD/HD formats.

^ That was recorded at Half height 60fps but it is perfect converted to 30fps for Youtube.
