Not tried using posting anything on youtube but now i have some stuff i would like to put on it there, just to give it a go like.

What software do people use to compress their avi's? I've tried a couple of demos but they all seem to be out of sync :(

Cheers

When I first started I used Windows Movie Maker that is part of XP Home. Suffice to say the quality wasn't that great.

It helps to capture at lower resolution in Fraps, so ensure "Half-size" is selected, and 25 or 30 fps. And try playing the game at reduced resolution while recording.

Don't use this myself, but a free option to try:
Try the following, just to see if it produces any better final video while keeping file size down.

Get VirtualDub v1.7.7 and x264 VfW and install the two.

Use VirtualDub to edit/chop your raw Fraps footage. Once happy with with it select Video menu and pick Compression. Scroll down list and select x264vfw.

From the file menu select "Save as AVI". A quick test with a 320x240 Fraps recording reduced file from 125MB to 12.6MB. No idea how it would look after Youtube mess with it though.

Ahhhh VirtualDub, been trying to remember that name for ages.

Thank you, thats what i used to use ;)

..... Installed both but cannot get VirtualDub to open anything, says it can find the VfW thingy :(

impressive encoder, just done a fraps in windows at full 1680x1050 res and compressed the 254MB file into a 3.5MB one with very good PQ still at full res. No other encoder i've tried has results anywhere near as good!
