Fraps

Can you expand on that bhavy? When I've tried it I agree it drops the framerate down to what you're recording at. Has this been fixed in later\registered versions?

Great shout with that free video converter app - going to try that tonight.

Oh sorry, yes it does :p

I only ever record at 30 fps, so cant really tell.

GPU accelerated encoding isn't in Fraps (yet) and I don't know how it would help either since your GPU is being utilised so I imagine spare horsepower would not be spare :p

It is more CPU intensive at the moment and the framerate will drop but if you have a GPU capable enough and a half decent CPU then there's no reason you can't record at a high framerate,

I record BC2/L4D2 and Hot Pursuit videos at half res (game at 1920x1200) and using no framerate lock in Fraps I can record the video at 30fps while the game runs at 50-60fps which is perfectly acceptable and has no affect on your gaming experience. I think what helps the most is recording the videos to another HDD above anything else.

The end result is a video that is a about 4GB in size (Fraps will start a new file if a file goes over 4GB) for a few minutes of footage at half res and the quality is really god too after conversion to an mp4 which is about 200MB (mpeg4 codec @ about 3000kbps, not h.264) and aac audio.

I am on a GTX460 and Q9550 btw.

Same here.
Although 30fps @1080p takes a lot of space lol. I suppose I should consider dropping it down... (49Gb for 9mins haha! 780ish Mb after compression) Take a little while to compress though, about 1Gb a minute on average. So I'm pretty selective.

Turn it all down if it's just for short bursts or general recording - make it nice and simple.

How do you unlock the framerate lock? Do you need a full copy?

I have a full version, not sure if it's in the free version but I imagien it is, try the latest build?
