Does anyone use FRAPS? and is there an alternative that's easy on the frame rate.

I like using Microsoft FSX and the frame rate plummets by about 50% when I use FRAPS.

I use MSI Afterburner when capturing live gameplay, I only use FRAPS if I'm spectating or replaying a recording/demo of something.

Afterburner is a good alternative. It can display temperature and GPU usage too I believe.

if you record with afterburner or any recording device, if you can have the recording recorded on a different drive to the game your playing.

my seagate barracuda 7200rpm drive couldnt read and write quick enough on skyrim at 1080p in busy areas

Typically I use Afterburner but if recording with chat I use FRAPS.

I've been using a program called dxtory. Loads more options then fraps and hardly touches the frame rate.

DXTORY is the best atm i think, sepaerate audio tracks, makes editing way easier, good options but large files unless you record with the Lagarith codec

how does DXTORY stand up to an Elgato for example and recording through that way?
