Freaking out!!!

I will have to go for a series of tests, cytoscopy, CT and so on on my bladder and kidneys. These should be arranged within the next fortnight.

Are the NHS attempting to avoid spending money on you: No
Are they taking their sweet time about it: No
Are you bleeding all over the A&E dept: No

Be afraid, be very afraid :P

Ok so I had the ultrasound first which didn't show anything. The cytoscopy showed an inflamed bladder, the doctor thinks it might be because of infection. And perhaps the cytoscopy was done too soon. However I now have to have a CT Scan and they took a urine sample for cytology. I also had a blood test for kidney function. I also have to have another cytoscopy in 4 weeks time.

He couldn't see any cancer in my bladder. Hopefully it stays that way.

I had an ultrasound once, the operator said that if you have anything horrendous like cancer, it's normally totally obvious and wouldn't be missed...

If the antibiotics seemed to work (they stopped the blood) and you've had an ultrasound (which was normal) AND they said your bladder looked inflamed from an infection... then it really doesn't sound serious.

Also - I've been a medical stresshead in the past, I even spoke to the doctor about it, going crazy spending all day on the internet diagnosing myself (which it sounds like you've been doing) you might want to talk to them about your anxiety if you keep stressing :)

This isn't a medical thread as I have seen a physician.

Late Sunday night I went to the toilet as usual and found that I was urinating blood...this went on for a few hours pretty much every few minutes or so. I phoned 111 (which wasn't too much help tbh) who told me to just see my GP within 24 hours. Anyway this went on, getting worse with pain when I urinated so my wife called 111 again. This time (5am) they referred me to the out of hours Dr at our local A&E, who done some dip urine tests, which were inconclusive, so she sent it off to the lab.

Anyway she gave me antibiotics, said it was probably a urinary tract infection and it will clear up in a few days.

So here we are a few days later, and sure enough, the bleeding stopped shortly after beginning the antibiotics, the pain is almost gone as well. All well and good....

Or so I thought.

I call the doctor this afternoon for the results to the urine test, the receptionist said the results showed my urine tested normal and no further action was necessary...I though this was strange because if it was normal, why was I bleeding?

A call to the actual doctor and he tells me that because there was no infection I will have to go for a series of tests, cytoscopy, CT and so on on my bladder and kidneys. These should be arranged within the next fortnight.

So here we are, I am pretty worried tbh...doctor said not to be, as it could be just a kidney stone (I have no other symptoms) or a burst blood vessel, due to my age it unlikely to be bladder cancer...hopefully it's nothing serious but as one of my closest friends is dying from bladder cancer I'm sure you can imagine, only the worst is going through my head right now.

As I said, I'm not after medical advice, just a place to vent really.

dude for something this serious, go to private hospital and spend some £££ for full check. don't waste your time in free NHS /GB.

I agree on this. The anxiety you seem to be suffering is on the high side. So just pay the money, get the tests done right away. If you live in an affluent area, then you probably have the means. I think you'll probably not be at ease til they give you a pat on the back and say on your way, you're fine... Money is just money when it comes to these things.

Whatever I do I have to wait 4 weeks to have the second cytoscopy as the inflammation has to subside, the CT scan will be before that and the otger tests are being done already. I doubt it could be done any quicker.

Great news. When my cancer was diagnosed it showed up in the ultrasound. In fact the radiologist mistakenly told me before my doctor.

So they definitely can see cancer in most cases with an ultrasound and the fact it is clear is very good news indeed.

I'm more positive than I was, that is for sure. My symptoms have pretty much cleared up, the fact that the urologist could just see inflammation he said was probably due to a bad infection and he did say he couldn't see anything resembling cancer and that it was unlikely going by the cytoscopy. Also the ultrasound didn't show anything either.

It seems that there is a strict procedure to follow in all cases of visible haematuria which includes CT scan, Ultrasound, Cytoscopy and the other tests. I just need the CT Scan and another cytoscopy when the inflammation has subsided.

(The nurse after did say that she couldn't see anything either, and while she was careful to say she wasn't a doctor, she said normally if there is cancer they would see cauliflower like growths...I had nothing like that. It just looked all red and swollen)

So far so good.

Glad it's all worked out and it does sound like just an infection. However, I can well appreciate that sometimes when you see the odds you tend to focus on the scarier lower percentages. It's like finding a lump on your nuts most blokes know the chances are it isn't but deep down they are sure it is.

Thanks. I still have a bit of anxiety, but not the all encompassing hopelessness I had before.

Anxiety is normal. Expectation of the worst is all normal. But actually coping with the worst when it happens is also normal.

I spent years with families thinking how the hell do they cope with this where do they get their strength. Then the boot when on the other shoe and you just do.

What I am saying is no matter you will cope. So stop worrying about what may come to pass. I had haemoturia in my early 20's but that was because I used to sink 8 pints a night!

Sounds like a bladder infection to me. If there was anything sinister, they would have found it.

You can relax a bit now :)

They still seem concerned, which is what concerns me. I have now been given an appointment for a CT Scan with Contrast on the 29th. I am still feeling an occasional heaviness in my bladder region as well.

Time to add my experience to this, I have been going through similar but didn't want to say until after tests

I have an annual medical and at the end of 2013 they detected blood (non visible) in urine, I had more blood tests and prostate tests and then a further urine test which was still positive but down by 2/3, nothing else was done as it seemed to be going away

I go back for my check again at end of 2014 and test comes back positive again

Like Castiel I started panicking too, doctor referred me to hospital for scan which I had this morning and all was clear, the levels are within the guideline limits but still positive and getting no worse

Feel a lot better for having had the scan

@Castiel, just to say I can totally understand how you feel, I was the same but it appears we should both be ok :)
