Freaking out!!!

well that's good - now that you can put your mind at ease that it isn't anything massively serious then you'll hopefully start feeling better in general too with that worry/anxiety gone :)

Good news :)

Take a deep breath and relax a little, sounds like this episode has been a total and utter hell, (it was with me when I had a lump on my nuts that turned out to be a cyst.. but it SUCKED waiting to find out)

One problem I had - that you *might* is actually accepting the results, and putting it behind you, for quite a while I was freaking out that I still had problems, it did take me a while.

Glad to hear it's all sounding harmless and benign. :)

Thanks everyone, and yeah it's taking it time to sink in tbh, but I'm putting that down to still needing to have one more op...but it is such a relief that I woke up this morning without first feeling normal, then a few seconds later the dread coming back...

GP didn't seem to happy that I wasn't told much earlier, but I suspect that I'm far down the list of priority for what is a very busy urology dept.

thanks.

I'm feeling more positive these days....the stent is a nightmare but my GP is on it with better medication which is making it a bit easier....spoke to the Uro nurse the other day who said stent side effects are common and unfortunately there's not much I can do but rest and drink loads. She was similarly hopeful of a positive outcome with regard my kidney..telling me that if the urologist/radiologist thought it was anything serious I would have been on the operating table already having a more decisive attempt at looking in my kidney, she said something about balloons.

She apologised for not giving me the results of my biopsies earlier...saying that normally unless there is something serious it is left until the next appointment, basically no news is good news....that didn't really help peoples anxiety though.

She was kind enough to point me to some literature explaining why the urologist suspects the defect is basically a blood vessel which crosses into the renal pelvis causing a minor filling defect. She explained the type of cancer that forms in the renal pelvis is very rare, apparently even the common form is relatively rare as far as cancers go, and extremely rare in someone with my history, age and lack of risk factors (she said something about there being only about 400-600 cases a year and the 40-49 age group accounts for about 2-3% of those, almost always with significant risk factors attached) and that, along with the scans themselves leads the consultants to think it's a blood vessel or perhaps an aberrant papilla, in other words just a variant of a normal kidney which is common. She said the urologist thinks my blood and bladder symptoms were the result of a virus, rare but not unheard of.

She told me that the paperwork she had just says that they want to characterise a minor filling defect, they are not even sure there is anything there at all and that CT Urograms are very good at detecting, grading and staging tumors so not to worry too much as the consultant isn't concerned.

A letter from my Consultant today telling me that the cytology he done by washing through my kidney is clear, no malignant or atypia at all. So more good news.

He just wants to visualise the defect next week using flexible ureterscopy to make sure that the defect is actually there and that it isn't going to cause any issues in the future. He said at this stage the chances of cancer very very slight and the defect is probably a blood vessel as they suspected.

I take it they will remove the stent at the same time.

After I had my kidney stone blasted. I thought I had a stent (it was a possibility) as when I came round I could feel it. Turns out it was just my bladder about to go on a major cramping session. Which needed some really good drugs to make me relax.

Glad things are looking brighter for you matey

God I hope so, the Stent has been an absolute nightmare.

Glad it's all worked out. Still pretty shocked you were never given Tolterodine - I thought that was a standard as it would also help with any anxiety related issues that people may have at such a time.
