Free 2Mb Broadband for Sky customers

I am a Sky customer, but I have just had BT Broadband installed.

Are there any advantages to having both Sky and BT?

Telewest are announcing more speed upgrades shortly :D

2 meg - 4 meg

4 meg - 8meg

10 meg - 20 meg

All free upgrades like previous telewest upgrades

Sorry to go slightly off topic - where did you hear this????
Not knocking it - if it is true thats cracking news :)

hmm...the sky offer does sound a bit "too good to be true". There must surely be a snag somewhere.

I just got bt broadband max for £27 a month but saw the sky offer and cancelled (they tried to tie me into the contract from the moment my line was enabled!!??!!). I eventually got out the contract as only had it for about a week. Apart from the sky offer, i found that i never actually got close to the 6meg speed they promised. My line averaged about 150 kbps and occasionally rose to 250kbs buts never went past that. Is the 8 meg speed purely theoretical?

Ntl have currently slashed their prices...you can now get their 10 meg service for £17 for the duration of the contract.

"1mb = £9.99 p/m
4mb = £14.99 p/m
10mb = £17.49 or £17.99 p/m "

more info here

All you have to do is threaten cancellation (similar to the upgrades/retentions scenario) and they'l drop your lr.

Is there any chance bt will follow suit?

Do NTL/Telewest ever bother to expand their networks?

All these good offers coming out but with ADSL your lucky to get more than about 5mbps in most places so what's the point?

BT better upgrade the old copper network soon, i want fibre to the home as things should get very competitive with internet, phone and SD/HD TV, also i think it would be cool if instead of mostly channels we just get a massive list of stuff to watch with little or no adverts for a single monthly subscription!

Not AFAIK as they don't have the money to invest in further expansion of their cable network :(

I'm stuck with BTw as a result and even if I had Sky, I wouldn't be able to get on their LLU service as Easynet don't have a presence in my exchange.

Is anyone trying to switch to Sky?

I have tried but got an email about 2 weeks ago saying that broadband is available and they will contact me in due course, probably beginning of August.

Anyone else had that?

Recieved an email from Sky this morning.

Quote "We have had extremely high demand for Sky Broadband, however, we hope that we will be able to deliver it to you in the next few weeks

We'll be in touch in 2 weeks time to keep you regularly informed of our progress in your area. Simply keep an eye out for emails from us.

We're sorry we can't get Sky Broadband to you any sooner but we're sure you'll be delighted once it is installed"

Anyone else?
