AD has auditing out-of-the-box, it just needs to be configured correctly for your environment/requirements.

Netwrix do some awesome auditing tools - they have free versions of most, but they're cut down versions of the licensed version.

If you're looking to get something for an enterprise solution, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend purchasing the fully licensed versions.
