Hi all,

I would like to backup my windows server 2008 r2 I run at home (for messing about with xbmc, virtual machines etc) including all programs and their configuration.... Can anyone recommend me a FREE tool for this please?

Thanks in advance

Windows Server Backup?

It works, can do a bare metal restore, simple to use. Serves pretty well if you have a network share for backups too or NAS. It can be installed using windows features.

Bear in mind it won't backup to a networked location and store more than one copy for some utterly bizarre reason. Use a USB drive however and you're fine.

It uses Volume Shadow Copy on the destination volume to store the multiple copies in an efficient way (differential copies at the block level). You can't do Volume Shadow Copy across the network, hence no multiple copies.

If you don't mind a bit of command line messing, MKSBackup will let you rotate through a week of backups to a NAS (each backup into a different folder).
Interesting tool.

Bear in mind that even with this tool, the backups will be full backups, so although you have multiple backups to choose from, they will consume a lot of disk space.
