supermarket, best place really

top tip, if your going to be moving heavy stuff like books, go to the beers, wines and spirits section and get the guy to give you some of the wine cases, they are very strong for obvious reasons ;)
 
Supermarkets; though I think it helps if you ask them beforehand, because they're sometimes broken down and thrown away at the beginning of the day.

Freecycle groups/websites are often a good way of tracking down boxes too.
 
I get loads from supermarket...
I also got plenty from local shops. Moving 3 times in 3 years, it's definitely the easiest and cheapest method.
 
Get mine from Homebase. They always have a big trolley full by the exit. Perhaps they do this nationally.

For transporting books I've heard it's best to put them in a suitcase. You can just wheel them about then :)
 
Supermarket fruit boxes are very good for things like DVD's, CD's, books :) (they are easy to pick up, stack nicely and hold a fair quantity)
Your local morrisons will likely have them by the checkouts and you can pick up a couple every trip for a few weeks :)
 
If you work in an office or know anyone that does, as above ask IT dept if you/they have one, they usually have server/workstation boxes which are pretty sturdy.

Sometimes you can muster up something from a supermarket or in local village shops, I was seriously paranoid about sending a Corsair 650D case in the post, lost the original box, couldnt find anything ANYWHERE within time, even from work....

Ended up getting a giant box from the supermarket that they had in from Quavers, box was huge, added some other cardboard inside to re-enforce it, used poly and bubble wrap, jobs a gooden

Some people will let you rummage through their cardboard skips
 
Go to your nearest Morrisons and ask a produce assistant for banana boxes. If they haven't got any check near the checkouts!
