Hey Guys, posted last week about a upgrade for Q6600 10GB ram ATI 7950.
Had loads of ideas but ive manged to get hold of a Intel I5 2400 for £0 - from what i can see these are not that great but do beat a q6600.

I was going to go down the I7 route - my question is... is there a MOBO mem option i can get now that will run with the I5 for a month or 2 then i can swap out for I7?

That will give me a upgrade CPU/MOBO/mem now to run with the decent card and SSD then in a few months chuck another 2-300 at it and get the I7 and just swap CPU..

Is that doable? So idealy need a spec for 2-300 for mem and Mobo for an I7 that will run a I5 for now... or are they diff sockets?

The 2400 is a 1155 socket, you can get 1155 i7's..

These are the 2600(k)/2700(k)/3770k... The Haswell (1150 socket) is the 4770k..

So get a decent Z77 1155 motherboard and you'll be sorted..

ATX or mATX?

Also somebody on my other thread mentioned that my OCZ agility 3 may have issues with the onboard Sata Controller?

Will it be ok? I might have to RMA it anyway as keep disappearing i have googled it and seems common fault, formatting as we speak will then update firmware and see, only had it a few months!

aahhh im in work at moment so cant check... this is a Goliath of a cooler fitted right now.. so dont think size is to much of issue.. I can get the cooler from the old PC i grabed the I5 from.. maybe that will hold out untill i get the I7.

Is there a generic go to cooler for the i5 that will fit most? Ill broswe the Case section now see if i can find it..
