Free DNS servers.

Hey guys,

My Dad's with ukonline and is having a few problems with the speed of his net connection, mainly the speed of pages loading...

He's reported his fault to the isp and they've recognised that there is a problem with their servers, but they haven't said when it's going to be sorted or if there's any alternative

So, has anyone got any reliable, 'off-the-shelf ready' servers that I could get him to start using straight away? Since it's only a short-term fix, I don't really want him to start signing up for anything.

You could try OpenDNS - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 - free to use etc

If he's having speed issues, unless its a problem with UKOnline's DNS servers, then it probably wont make much difference to be honest.

4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 are also widely used (mostly because they're easy to remember)

As above, I use 4.2.2.3. I tried pinging various sites with all variations of the last digit up to 6 that are available and .3 returned the lowest avg pings for me.

The Level 3 (4.2.2.x) servers tended to stop working for me on a regular basis, so I just used my own ISPs again and have never had any issues. OpenDNS would probably be your best bet.
