Free Dungeon Keeper Gold

gog.com are giving away DK1 for free if you login/create an account.

It's the original Dk1 not crappy 2 or the cartoony remakes

**edit also includes deeper dungeons expansion

Have they fixed it for Windows 7 yet? Having LOVED DK as a nipper, I bought that a year or two ago from them and was most disappointed to find it crashed a lot. Apparently, they knew about the problem with W7 machines yet never made buyers aware, or researched a fix. I was most irked!

on 7 64bit

Take that back!! Nothing wrong with 2

Kosmiche · 14 Feb 2014 at 18:42

Played it earlier on W7 64 bit with no issues whatsoever.

Edrof · 14 Feb 2014 at 19:47

That sounds promising. I think the issue was with the saves: often, saving the game caused the crash.

Kosmiche · 14 Feb 2014 at 19:50

Oh right, thought you were on about generally launching the game and playing...I was only on it for a few minutes so I didn't save the game yet.

Mittens · 14 Feb 2014 at 20:03

thanks for the heads up, excellent news

Footyslayer · 14 Feb 2014 at 20:26

Cheers for the heads up

Works fine on Windows 8.1 including save. Such a fantastic game - time to waste some hours on it!

Working fine on win 7 x64 saves fine no crashes. Brings back memories.

Guest2 · 14 Feb 2014 at 21:39

All works great - but something seems a bit weird with mouse speed/ mouse movement. Im sure its different on the original CD version of the game I have

Toadem · 14 Feb 2014 at 21:47

Got it ty for the info.

AStaley · 14 Feb 2014 at 22:21

Does GoG require a game client installed in a similar fashion to Steam?

VeNT · 14 Feb 2014 at 22:52

anyone got it working on linux?

No, although it does use its own client to download if I remember but once installed you don't have anything else running to launch the games. GoG = DRM free

breadturbo · 14 Feb 2014 at 23:22

its html, same as gpu drivers etc. no program needed at all.

I probably preferred 2

Guest2 · 14 Feb 2014 at 23:38

It installs with Dosbox packaged and settings pre-configured. There is a display options shortcut to change a few things and mouse speed but there is something strange about it still compared to when I got the original version working last time

Stanith · 14 Feb 2014 at 23:39

While I didn't prefer 2, I definitely still thoroughly enjoyed it

I was disappointed when the bile demons didn't get bigger as they levelled up like they did in the first one though :/
