Hi all,

Need a forum setting up for a bunch of work people, was looking at the free forum websites but can anyone recommend any?

Plus, how easy is it to setup our own?

Simple Machines Forum is a good, free, piece of software. You'll need your own hosting and a domain, however.

"vanilla" is a good option, dead easy to setup, doesn't come with loads of guff - but if you want more guff, you download addons for it quite easily.

install debian net install
instal mysql
install apache
install php
install phpmyadmin
download phpbb
extract to web root (/var/www/)
visit install script in browser
follow instructions.
?????
Profit.

Honestly, it should take about 30 mins, and that includes installing debian.

wow, this was dragged up from the depths.

This was all sorted a couple of weeks after originally posting, 11 months ago :D

thanks for updating us with the details of how you managed it and what solution you went with in the end!

What's with the bitchy comment??

We have lots and lots of threads asking for help and very few of them ever come back and update them, especially when it's such a generic question.

Or is it the fact that you posted help in such an old thread without noticing and your feeling a little silly for it?

Either way, thanks for you advice, even if it wasn't needed! :)

Not bitchy, just it's kind of poor form on your behalf to ask for advice and then leave the thread, and not give back to 'the community' There nothing worse than searching for info on something and just finding other people asking for the same info.. Share what you learned... Did anybodys comments here help you out? Jeez.... Remind me never to offer to help you again.

It was bitchy, had it not of been you'd of written "Any chance you can let us know what method you went with in the end and how successful it was?" instead :)

Like I said, its a very generic question, and if someone did search for it they will still find a thread full of other peoples suggestions and experiences.

I am going to request this thread is closed so this doesn't continue!
