downloading this and the 35 map pack, dam i need more than 1mbit!!!

cant wait till we move house and i can get 10mbit, or 22mbit seen as the new house is on adsl+2 exchange :D :D :D

this game should test the rig in my sig quite well :D

I think I'll grab this later tonight. Although I'll wait until tomorrow to try it out, after I've popped into OcUK and got a 7900GS 512MB to replace my 6600GT 256MB. Somehow, I don't think the 6600GT would manage a decent FPS rate on full settings.

wow for something that wouldnt require much, i sure get low fps at times, like 30.

It's pretty configurable though. It's based on a modified Quake engine which is over 10 years old now, so if you turn things down a bit you should get decent fps.

As for the game itself I had a quick blast on botmatch a few days ago, it has quite a nice feel to it but essentially I think most people who like this type of gameplay will likely be diehard Quakeworld or maybe Q3 (CPM) players. They are both pretty refined games and it will likely be hard to win over their players.

The secondary fire on the rocket launcher (causes rocket to explode in midair) is an interesting one, I can't decide if it's good or bad. On the plus side it allows skilled players to pull of hits from almost any angle (rather than the rather lame process learning to shoot specific points on the map such as ceiling/floor/walls etc), but on the downside it makes the weapon a little overpowered since it makes rocket damage much harder to dodge.

Console commands are the same or similar to those for Quakeworld in a lot of cases. To show fps it's "showfps" :)

Just had a brief go on it, played CTF on facing worlds (further enforcing the UT feel :p).

The game is very dark. I have to seriously ramp up the gamma when I play, and it makes everything look very washed out as a result. I guess it's designed like that, but it seems silly to make a game based on "pure" gameplay, and then force people to peer at shadows. Or maybe it's just my PC.

I found it a tiny bit laggy/unresponsive too, but I imagine that could be either the server I was on or the graphics settings.

Otherwise though, it was fun. Still getting used to the weapons (what I thought was a railgun isn't, finding the grappling hook, the pistol is a bit odd, etc), but they all seem pretty good, and the physics of it all is pretty solid. Will definitely keep playing it.

Warsow is based on Q2 engine iirc which means that it possibly has better graphics and probably has worse physics and netcode, depending on what they've done with it.

Incidentally as you've looked at sauerbrauten you might like to check out some of the authour's other works. I actually know the guy through Quakeworld and attending the same uni many years ago, his fisheye mod for Quake in particular is pretty cool (fov 360, anyone?)

He also worked for Crytek on Far Cry although he left prior to the game's release.
