Free Gallery software

I'm looking for some good free gallery making software for my website, so it generates thumbnails automatically and then when you click the thumbnail the original size image pops up in a resized window for the image.

It doesn't need to be very fancy, but something just a little over normal would be great. I know of simple viewer but it doesn't allow for popup windows.

I don't think it has popups though, they are evil.

Shouldn't be too hard to hack SimpleGal to produce plugins, though

I'm considering adding something akin to that Lightbox javascript - as a plugin at least. Would be pretty neat

I've always preferred Coppermine as a gallery to other popular solutions such as Gallery, simply because it has a lot of nice features, but isn't bloated, and it's quite easy to edit the source to add your own stuff.
