Hi All

Pretty much as per the title, can anyone suggest any free games which will run nicely (and look lovely) on a newly purchased PC (an i3 with a 5570) and have really good support for a wireless 360 controller to impress my girlfriends Dad who has just purchased the pc.

Thanks

For a price of "free", your best bet is to install steam and download a few demos of AAA games like Crysis 2 (multiplayer), Mass Effect 2, Dirt 2 or Just Cause 2.

If you have your own steam account with purchased games that would look good - you could always log in as yourself on this PC and play the full game (just remember to make sure the computer does not remember your steam password).

May I ask what the resolution monitor this new PC is driving?

tbh, there's not much that will look lovely on a 5570 - it gets beaten by the GT240, which is often used in HTPCs rather than for 3D acceleration.

I'm not entirely sure about that, with my 5770 I can run most games at high with dollops of AA and AF at 1080p, and they generally look fantastic.

Valve, it's not free but you can pick up Batman AA cheap enough now that it's probably worth it, fantastic looking game that he will probably enjoy even if he's not into Batman, and you could keep it and play it. It's only a fiver or so now, and it works great with the 360 controller.

5770 and 5570 are very different cards though.

Cheers guys, the pc was best of a bad bunch from the purple shirt people and he insisted on buying from a shop as he didn't want the hassle of buying online if there need to be returns etc :(

Fortunately it's only for a small monitor resolution of 1600 x 600 (does that sound right?)

Well, I can always drop the resolution down a little, he'll never know ;)

Just wish he'd listened when I said to buy online and get much more bang for his buck...but no, wanted it there and then!

Lord of the Rings Online is free to play and from what i've been told can look very good :)

Ignore, missed the 360 controller support, although I don't really see how that is supposed to show off a PC :D

Apologies for my earlier post, I read 5770 instead of 5570, yeah it won't look great on a 5570.
