Well, unless you've shown him the Crysis demo already(which in turn forced him to return it), try the Mafia 2 demo.

I don't know of a finer looking game that requires so little power.

He already has a 360 which he plays a lot and just wanted a pc to plaqy on from time to time and this was the best of frankly a terrible selection that the purple people had!!!

you could try Americas army 3 on steam, its free, don't know what it is like though have not tried it out yet.
