After about a year of frequent downloadable content updates culminating in a full-on expansion, the extra content for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivionhas dried up in the last six months. We figured the blokes at Bethesda just got busy working on Fallout 3, but apparently they weren't quite finished with their early next-gen hit. Today they announced the sixth and final downloadable content update for Oblivion, Fighter's Stronghold.

As the name suggests, Fighter's Stronghold provides a more muscly alternative to previous add-ons like the Thieves Den and Wizard's Tower. The swordsman's place of residence, a giant detailed castle, is full of special goodies including new treasure and the ability to choose how the place is decorated right down to hiring a taxidermist to make trophies celebrating your triumphs.

Fighter's Stronghold will be available on Monday, October 15th for the PC and Xbox 360. Unlike most of the previous downloadables, it will be free for the first week. Bethesda has not said how much it will cost after then, but previous downloadable packs of this type have ranged between $1 and $3, so probably not much.

For the PlayStation 3 Oblivion owners in the audience, Bethesda VP of public relations Pete Hines updated the Bethesda blog with a post on if and when the Shivering Isles expansion will be coming to the PS3:

"Since we're talking about DLC, I thought I'd update you with what's going on with the PS3 version of Oblivion. We are close, very close to working something out to bring Shivering Isles to PS3 owners. That may be in downloadable form via PSN, or as a standalone retail disc, or both. I can't say definitively yet that it will happen, and I definitely can't say when. But it's looking good, and hopefully we'll have good news soon. Don't have anything I can tell you about any other DLC, but Shivering Isles is the one we get asked about all the time, so I at least wanted to update folks on that."

Hines also kindly reminded potential players that if they haven't picked it up yet, the Game of the Year edition of Oblivion -- which includes Shivering Isles and the Knights of the Nine mini-expansion -- is coming out for PlayStation 3. A Shivering Isles stand-alone disc will also be released for the 360 next week.

Looks like the 360/PC versions of the game are getting some free content next Monday, which should be quite cool......Only ever bothered with the Shivering Isles Expansion but none of the other downloads........Are they worth it? :o

Would this be compatible with the GOTY edition? Im guessing yes but just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy it :)

Also would I be able to download it without the game? Im wanting to get it for free but I might not have it before the first week where it is Free :(

Last Question what does the GOTY contain? I know it contains some of the DL content, but not sure what.

Item Description

Oblivion GotY will include the original version of the award-winning RPG Oblivion along with the official expansion, The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, and the downloadable content, Knights of the Nine.

This new product will allow players who have never played the 2006 Game of the Year to experience Oblivion for the first time with additional content. In addition, gamers can continue their existing games of Oblivion and experience the new quests and areas offered by the expansion and downloadable content.

Released in March 2006 Oblivion has already earned countless awards from publications around the world and won numerous Game of the Year and RPG of the Year awards.

Oblivion features a powerful combination of free-form gameplay, unprecedented graphics, cutting edge AI, character voices by acting legends Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, Terrance Stamp, and Lynda Carter, and an award-winning soundtrack. Gamers can choose to unravel Oblivion's epic narrative at their own pace or explore the vast world in search of their own unique challenges.

With more than 30 hours of new gameplay, Shivering Isles allows you to explore an entirely new plane of Oblivion - the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness. Shivering Isles features a bizarre landscape split between the two sides - Mania and Dementia - filled with vast, twisting dungeons mirroring the roots of the trees they are buried within. Sheogorath himself looks to you to be his champion and defend his realm and its inhabitants from destruction as you discover all new items, ingredients, spells, and much more.

Knights of the Nine features an all-new faction and quests for noble characters and answers many of the questions surrounding the Ayleid ruins found throughout Oblivion. Players can join a new faction and found their own order of holy knights - leading them into battle against a sorcerer-king and his demonic minions while exploring massive dungeons and searching for legendary relics - the holy armor and weapons of the Divine Crusader.

Just to be sure ;)

Good news, thanks :) I played it on PC when it first came out, but only did the main story and the guilds, so it will be nice just to do some exploring this time :)

I'll also try not to ride my horses down cliff sides this time and killing them :p

Just wanted to say the new Oblivion content is up on Xbox Market place NOW! :D and is 10Mb.

IT IS ONLY FREE FOR THE FIRST WEEK! SO GET DOWNLOADING! :)

I've got my GOTY edition coming tommorow, so hopefully I can finally see what I've missed ever since I played it on PC when it was first released.

Downloading now, but its just 10mb...I thought it would be a lot larger. Not played Oblivion in ages and I've got me a 32" screen since then so this could be interesting. Here we go!

The deeds to a castle/stronghold which comes with its own knights thats you can command IIRC

Dont know much else about it either, but if its free why knock it?

Uhm, well that was exciting... Reached the castle and fought the TWO bandits laying 'siege' to the castle, and that was it. I'm now the owner. Time to find out what I can do in here because it's so dark.

Oh yeah there's quite a lot of upgrades you can purchase for 2.5k. Just trying to find the new staff who have been brought into the castle now lol

Edit: ooh found a secret area! omfg I just got owned
