Free one year subscription to Microsoft technet

Got it!

Now, what can I actually do with this and why is it free?

I'm wondering this too, it seems like I can get retail keys for vista and office with it? Is that right or are they trial keys?

You gain full access to the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN).
This level of access is normally reserved for the computing industry professionals.

Yes, they are retail keys and downloads, no trials!
And remember everyone is allowed 2 installs of Office running on the same key, one on a desktop and the other on a portable device. ;)

One useful thing that might interest those looking to move onto SP2 for Vista on a new install is that you can download the original DVD image of...

"Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 2 Checked Build (x86) - DVD (English)"

OR

"Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 2 Checked Build (x64) - DVD (English) "

(make sure they are date stamped May 2009, scroll down the download lists to find it)

Users won't have to faff around with slipstreaming SP2 with their own original Vista + SP1 or even Vista + No SP DVD images.

Before you ask if these disc images will expire etc. No they won't. If you use an original key that came with your store bought Vista (or the one that came with your notebook/pc) then it will last forever.
