When you say before and after, are you saying you edited both from RAW? I couldn't get it to have anywhere near that level of processing. It just slapped a preset over the RAW file. Granted you can use multiple layers but in a quick use I don't think it's anywhere near as usable as Lightroom, etc.
Hi ElDude, both these shots were edited from raw by the programs listed.
I find dpp has great control over exposure - wb colour - noise and cropping and I used curves to boost the contrast.
With perfect effects I opened the image and used dynamic contrast and selected the natural preset. This gave a good start point to work from and I used the controls to dial in more mid range detail and reduced the large detail to keep it looking natural. I the upped the vibrance to boost the colours.
I agree that its best for landscape type shots and some of the presets are over done. It is a quick way to get feel for the direction to take when processing and you can alter the effects after you have selected them.
I know photoshop can do much more but I think of this as a quick way to try out different styles and its free
