free roaming games ?

just won test drive unlimited for the pc, i definately think he will like that one. of course i will have to try it out as well :) he likes playing on colin mcrae but soon gets fed up with having to follow one road all the time.
oblivion next!

also he REALLY enjoyed gta san andreas but i couldnt let him play it cos of the swear words ect.

Not sure if this would work, perhaps someone can confirm, but if you download MTA or SAMP (multiplayer versions of GTA San Andreas) and just create a local server, spawn every type of vehicle and let him roam about with that.

There wouldn't be any cut scenes or npcs etc., so I dont think the swearing would be a problem...if it works!!

Test Drive Unlimited is great, just make sure you get him a 100% save game file. That way he'll be able to go everywhere and have access to all the cars.

update : have had test drive unlimited and operations flash point for a couple of days now and he loves them both! many thanks for all your help!:)
will be getting oblivion at some point as well

Psyconauts!!!

Really child friendly free roaming fun game, although with a story you kind of stumple your way through.

Overlord? Probably not as really free-roaming as most of those already mentioned but it's not really linear either - and it's hilariously funny.

Runescape ? or is that too complicated hmm... it is free though, theres plenty of places to roam around...even more so if u choose to pay for it.

what are these suggestions?! (Op Flashpoint, Just Cause...) the kid is only 6.

If you have the time, I suggest you get Garry's mod for HL2 and create a map yourself for your kid - you can pretty much create what you want.

Also just get him Guitar Hero or Viva Pinata, he will love those bright colors at that age

The thing about ArmA/Op Flashpoint is that there are massive maps for them, with the editor all you need to do is put in a couple of vehicles and no enemies and it's perfectly "child safe". Start as civilian and take it from there.

I could spend ages flying/driving around ArmA maps, if you've got it patched up and can have a decent view distance it is a good game to explore or mess about.

Battlefield 2, 64 player maps, I like to sometimes see if I can last a round without being killed once, I roam around & avoid people.

Bloody Jets....... :mad::D
