Hi all.

I am wanting to get outling planning permission for a new conservatory. Can anyone recommend some free software that I will be able to use to do some simple architectural drawings? Thanks!

You don’t always need planning permission there is quite a lot of permitted development allowed by local authorities, If you haven’t already I would speak to the planning officer for where you are.

Thanks. I have actually spoken with the planning dept' and this would seem to be the best way forward. I would be far easier to just stick it up but there you go :) .

If you need architectural plans, get an architect to do them. I am a structural engineer and it is laughable how many times I have had to sort out things that lay persons have done. Anyone thinks they can design a building until they try it!

Just the other day I had to do a report on a house that had been converted without benefit of building regulation approval, structurally it was fine but it contravened four sections of the building regulations including the fire regulations which (I'm sure I don't have to remind you ;) ) is a crminal offense.

However, unless you are going for a self build conservatory just get the company you are buying it from do all the drawing and planning work for you. If they don't provide that service, don't buy it from them as they are a bunch of cowboys.
