Has anyone else noticed this?

I have just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to 4.0 and the tethering option is now enabled... for free!

I'm on O2 - a friend also has had this happen after upgrading to iOS 4

:D

Additional usage charges may apply

So with the new data caps of 1GB and then something like X quid per 500MB, don't you find that a little suspicious..

Sounds to me like the operators will make a mint out of people using their laptops tethered. My laptop has 10 days uptime and 1.6GB received, 567MB transmitted.. so it's highly likely if I was tethered out'n'about I'd hit the cap quicker..

According to my phone stats, i've received 602mb of cellular network data. I've only been using it outside of my home today since I got it yesterday.

If thats accurate, cant see how it is. But if its is. That 500mb allowance is nothing. I just bought the phone, using it on my current unlimited data o2 contract.

I used up the 1gb allowance on my o2 sim for the ipad in a week.:(

EDIT: I have the tether option, but it takes me to the o2 site also.

Doesn't work on my unlocked 3G with my vodafone SIM. Looks like it a luck of the draw thing.

Not too bothered about it myself as I wouldn't use it, but it'd be nice to be able to use your data allowance for tethering for those who'd only need the option on rare occasions.

Erm, you didn't upgrade from a previous generation iPhone did you?

I noticed that yesterday, I'd restored from a 3GS and I showed the data usage from that device so I did a reset.

I'm using the sim from my 3gs in my sim-free iPhone 4 (who needs a dedicated micro sim when you have a pair of scissors), and turning on tethering still presents me with the O2 page.

Nothing on mine at all, on iPhone 4 which I bought as a PAYG and plugged in my old 3GS contract. I'm on O2 and accepted the carrier specific update - I wonder if this cancelled the option.

The ability to attach your computer to the iPhone, and use the iPhone's cellular connection to access the internet.

In other words.. you can hook up your computer to the phone and get online anywhere.
