Freedom

An illusion how? It is a very broad term, the meaning of which is heavily based on context.

give me the context you think of and I will demonstrate how you are not free within it,

for example: I feel really free when I ride my bike through the woods on a warm sunny Sunday morning.

someone will own the wood, they will have rules that you might be breaking just by being there, never mind on a bike.

you might feel free but your not, because its an illusion you summon on yourself because you will be back to work Monday, and within that working environment there are rules and bosses/managers that will stop you from free thinking,

ultimately, high above them is a government/courts that lay down laws that stop you from being 'free' in your everyday life, say if you wanted to walk down the street naked, harming no one.

I never quite understand the logic behind a motorbikers "freedom", you're wrapped in a leather bodybag (which are typically far too revealing), with a helmet preventing you from feeling any of natures forces on your skin. That's not freedom, that's mimicing a gay power-ranger.

Not many bikers wear leather one peices on the road unless they know theyre going to be stupid.

My normal set up is a pair of kevlar cargo pants that look completley normal, my usual boots the leather jacket i wear out normally only differnce to bormal is globes and the helmet

And you know you csn open your bisor or have an open face helmet

Driving with the roof down, I always feel excellent.

what like this ?

I've never been able to feel free... they always charge me the going street rate! :(

Watch me filter merrily past you, when you've been sat in stationary traffic on the M25 in baking sunshine for four long hours... then you'll start to get the idea!
There's a reason cars are referred to as Cages... ;)

you're wrapped in a leather bodybag
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

Huh?
You mean butt-crack, or just crotch bulge? The latter is just how the thicker material folds. All trousers do that.
If you just mean in general - I don't dive a damn what you think.... I'm busy paying attention to the gaggle of girls who clearly like that sort of thing! ;)

with a helmet preventing you from feeling any of natures forces on your skin.
As opposed to, what....?
A car windscreen?
A face full of ski mask and goggles?
Not really interested in the skin part, but when my bike goes from 0-60 in under 3 seconds, I *certainly* feel the forces of Nature!!

Only if you ride a Fireblade.... or a Ninja. Every group/hobby/interest/subculture has it's Ricer types and posers, after all. We just attract more of them, because biking is naturally that cool!! :D

Probably jet skiing in a hot place with a stunning backdrop.

Makes me feel ilke James Bond :p

pretty sure most of what everyone is posting isn't what makes them feel 'free' but what simply gives them an adrenaline rush, that's certainly the case with the speed freaks posting. nowt to do with freedom - you're just getting a rush. maybe that's what the OP meant - what gives you a rush, a feeling of euphoria.

I only felt truly free when I travelled the world for a while. Got up when I wanted, went where I wanted, saw something new every day, moved on when I wanted, stayed when I wanted, etc. If I could, I would travel my whole life and just have breaks every so often where I'd come back 'home' for a while, then I'd be off again.

I get a rush from fast bikes etc. not sure feeling free is the right way to put it.
