Freesat advice

If you want to record and watch two channel you would need a dual LNB on the satellite as the box requires two cables but I think it should work fine with just the one cable unless I am mistaken?

Yeah I have a multiple LNB as I had multi-room and Sky HD so have 3 cables coming in.

Not sure if I should go for a FreeSat HD-R as it would only be 2 months of savings from Sky

Just received my freesat box, went for a refurb from humax direct and it's seems to be brand new nothing looks used and new remote etc, plugged it into the one cable from the satellite and it worked with a excellent signal quality.

One thing I wish it had is a previous channel button, but like the built in WIFI and the ability to cast from chrome to it. First impressions are good. Thanks for all the help/advice

The Humax HDR-1100S 1Tb seems great at £220, it's only 3 months subscription, how does everyone find the tv guide as I know Sky's is actually very good (one of the few things Sky has got bang on)?

As mentioned in the previous post I pay Sky £70 a month so

3 months x £70 = £210 which is nearly the price of the Humax box

This is where freeview is better there boxes can be had for like £25-£40.

People get youview boxes for free and then sell them on ebay brand new. Youview is a freeview box with additional extras.

However if you don't have an aerial but have a dish then yeah your best mainstream option are the Humax boxes and they aren't cheap. There are other options which are cheaper and not as well known. Look at the avforums satellite section for more info.

There are a lot more manufacturers than humax, vu+ or vu plus, technomate, blade, you can even use a sky box, however if you want to use the record functions you need to pay sky around £10 a month for that. so if you really like their box and epg it costs £120 a year to use that box fully for freesat.

However I would recommend you look into vu plus

they even have 4k boxes however they won't be cheap but their HD boxes are very good and reasonably priced.

I find Freesats series link far more reliable than Skys which never coped well when shows moved days/times so for me it's actually a better system despite being a bit more clunky.

I've had a few failures where it's managed to schedule 3 things at once and I just get "recording failed" with no details but for the most part it is solid.

As mentioned in the previous post I pay Sky £70 a month so

3 months x £70 = £210 which is nearly the price of the Humax box

Gotcha, sounded to me like you had subscribed for 3 months for something.
