Hello,

I am not sure if this is the correct section or not.

We have an old sky box that we liberated from a friends garage many moons ago when we moved into our house. Our house had a sky dish on the side so we hooked it all up, did a master re-set on the sky box and it went off and updated itself and basically turned itself into freesat.

Now this morning (it could have been before this but only just noticed) channel five and it's sister stations (fiver etc) are all saying that they are not available. If I leave it a bit it tells me I need a new viewing card. All the other free to air channels appear to be working fine.

I have re-tuned the box but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Channel 5 is currently encrypted on Sly, due to licensing restrictions resulting from the fact that the satellite signal can be picked up pretty much anywhere across Europe.

TV in the UK annoys me at the moment. No HD Sports or ITV HD available on Virgin Media and a pathetic lineup of HD channels, considering the extent to which HD TVs are being sold in the UK.

I *think* what has happened is Sky have finaly switched off this card.

I have done a force software update and it didn't fix it.

I think I need a new "Sky Freesat Card". Nice of em, costs £20 apparantly, but I can't find them anywhere.

Apparantly the test is to see if you have Sky 3, if you don't chances are it's because the card is revoked.

I mean Sky 3? I had to wrack my brain to find that bad boy...yeah such a bastian of quality...then again...I was looking for 5 so I suppose I can't say much :D

Used to work for sky, and the simple answer is the card just won't have been updated due to not been updated on the system.

Give them a bell, technical number will be your best call. (No doubt end up in Scotland, or keep ringing untill you do).

Give them your card number, if its still on the system, they will be able to send signals out to the box to update the card.

If not they will be able to pass you through to order a new FREESAT card at, when I was working there, £10.

Hope that helps.

it will more than likely be the card, sky have done updates or something and you need a new card for it to work, i can still get channel 5 but i can't get sky3, five usa or fiver anymore

i did keep getting a message come up saying this would happen but never got round to ordering a new card

also you should be able to order a new card from www.sky.com/replacecard

A few months back sky were sending out new cards to anyone on subscription and anyone with freesat had to call a number. We got a new freesat card sent out for free.

You can tune in the real freesat version (i.e. no cards or anything necessary) of channel five.

Unfortunately, channel five haven't moved their other channels onto astra 2d satellite (due to capacity issues on the satellite) and therefore aren't allowed to broadcast unencrypted on other satellites.

There a 5 new HD channels coming to Virgin soon. Discovery, Eurosport, Film4, E4 and ITV.

Where did you see that ? The possibilty of HD MotoGP is getting me excited

Discovery, Eurosport, E4 and Film4 HD have all been confirmed for VM (see Home Cinema forum) All of them bar Film4 which will be in the summer, will come during Spring, so April will see the launch of those 3. ITV will come, but i don't think its 100% confirmed yet.

Lew...wow that's nice of them.

Last 3 years, would that be a money making scheme then?

I might move over onto Freesat I think...well if I could be bothered...I will probably just buy the card.
