hi

I had Freesat installed some months ago with dish installed, a sky receiver box with the Freesat card.

I'm wondering what I need to move to Freesat HD; is it kjust a case of getting a Freesat HD rfeceiver box or is there more to it such as getting something more for the dish or getting a new card?

If I were to want a receiver with a built-in h/drive would this require further changes to the dish itself?

Many thanks for help

What you currently have is freesat from sky which is different from freesat/freesat hd. There are small differences in the channel lineup (mainly channel five's extra channels missing). Also sky news isnt on the EPG.

As for your actual question, yes. Its simply a matter of buying a freesat HD box and plugging it in using the current satellite feed. If you want one with a built in hard drive, then if you want to record one channel and view another, you need 2 satellite feeds coming from a multi lnb dish. You already have this if you have a sky+ or skyhd installation.

Other unencrypted channels can be added manually (I've added Luxe TV HD and Sky News) with some boxes like the humax allowing an automatic scan. Note that channel 4 HD, fiver, five US are encrypted and so cannot be viewed from a freesat platform.

Many thanks for answering; would the extra feed from dish for the recording be something I could install myself or would I need to call an engineer?

If you have a multilnb dish, then you just connect the correct type of cable from the lnb to your box for a second feed. Similarly you can attach this to another box in another room for a separate satellite feed.

it can be done by yourself, but I do not have the knowledge to advise. i imagine there are others here who can.

Seems pretty good.

Thanks but sorry for being stupid but how would I know if I have multilnb dish?

Look at the LNB , does it have more than one output conector ( un-used ones usually have a little cover - tip its on the botton of the LNB )
