Freespace 2

Theres quite a few addons which basically make it a new game - it depends really... try it and if it works fine and you just want to go through the main game (which I'd recommend first)..

Just dug out my CDs, patched it to 1.2.

Anything else i need? i thought somewhere there were high res patches etc.

I guess it depends on how you define 'need' but there's a LOAD of stuff I'd definitely recommend. I think I downloaded at least a dozen files which included SCP (open source mod with OGL/D3D8 support etc), updated textures and models etc.

One word of warning, if you get all the high-end textures etc, and put all settings on max, it's an absolute RAM hog - used over a gig!

Couple of important links for you:

http://scp.indiegames.us/news.php <- SCP
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php#78 <- hardlight forums - check out the Upgrade project in particular for the latest models etc

Brilliant game which in a way I'm glad I never played until 1 year ago, as it meant I could do so with all the updates.

before i check this out, do i need to EDIT*** i havnt got a clue WHAT i was on about. was either drunk or too tired to spell.*** /EDIT the retial copy and use the source one? edit - ignor. lol should have read the first line on the source webpage before posting

And yes its work perfectly on XP when patched.

I'm just about to play this game again after many years. but I just thought to myself - joystick or dual shock joypad? I've played using the joystick years ago, but is a joypad better?

An epic game, with the biggest capital ships ive ever seen!

The SCP version is amazing. Not bad for a game from last century!

+1

I was actually scared when seeing some of them... they really do make you feel very, very small.

I must be in the minority, I liked no.2, but the 1st game will always hold a special place in my heart.

The story and the missions were more to my taste.

Oh man, this thread brings back memories.....

Being such a big B5 fan I loved Freespace 1 & 2.

It's only by chance I actually found the game, as I got it free with my Logitech Interceptor Joystick (The BEST joystick I've ever used, buttons everywhere but all correctly place, 3 hat stwitchs, it was bliss).

Cracked open the box of my Interceptor and out plonks a free game "Woo" I thought "Bet it won't be much good...Decent Freespace...hmm".

I set my joystick, install the game, and am greeted by one of THE best Intro movies I've ever seen, brilliant music, I was already hooked.

I couldn't fly worth **** when I started, I pretty much rammed the enemy ships to death, but alas, I soon mastered the controls and then played through the campaign, again and again and again and again.

And now suddenly I realise I'm not talking to my grandchildren and feel slightly embrassed  .

To cut a long story short yeah, Both FS1 & 2 are great, I do prefer 1 though, only because the Lucifer is the Best bada$$ ship ever.

God I love Freespace 2! Absolutely stunning game!

And I know what you mean about the capital ships.

Command: Big scary space ship coming your way
Me: oki doki [turns around]
Command: Go poke it
Me: err...

OMFG, the post above me just made me remember my fav moment from Freespace 2!!

Get ready (you'll all remember it :D ).

Mission starts....

"DIVE, DIVE, DIVE, HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!!!!!!"

*bad smell starts coming from underwear as I see a Sathanas Juggernaut charging straight towards me*

Me - "Oh..bu..oh..ffs..umm, afterburner, afterburner...." *Starts pressing lots of buttons in panic*

yes I'm being lazy, but it's because i'm at work and don't have any time to look into it, but can someone just post a list of downloads i need to get to get a freshly installed version of the game up to the latest standard.

Yes I'd like a little help too. I just need a link to the high res textures. Just installed it now, nipping out to buy a cheap joystick today. :)

Never thought to look for mods and updates for this game. One of my favourite games ever!

Just wish they still made games like this. Have tried X3, but it's just too involved and laborious... just want to fly around and blow things up :-)

Does anyone know if there are compatibility problems with Vista?
