http://fudzilla.net/home/item/36048-freesync-monitors-to-show-up-in-november

Our sources are confirming that the first FreeSync monitors might hit the market as soon as next month, but we don’t have any better date than that. AMD preaches that FreeSync, contrary to G-Sync, comes with no licensing fees for adoption, no expensive or proprietary hardware modules, and no communication overhead.

According to AMD, FreeSync uses industry-standard DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync protocols to pre-negotiate supported min/max refresh rates during plug’n’play, which means frame presentation to the user will never be delayed or impaired by time-consuming two-way handshakes.

Since FreeSync has no licensing fees for vendors, no expensive or proprietary hardware modules, and no communication overhead, FreeSync capable monitors should end up cheaper than G-Sync gear. Since there are lot of diehard AMD fans who will never defect to Nvidia, this is the perfect technology for them and people might be happy to know that many AMD cards will have FreeSync support.

AMD Radeon HD 7000, HD 8000, R7 or R9 Series will support Project FreeSync for video playback and power-saving purposes, while the AMD Radeon R9 295X2, 290X, R9 290, R9 285, R7 260X and R7 260 GPUs additionally feature updated display controllers that will support dynamic refresh rates during gaming.

I wonder what brand will be the first panel?

So it's possibly only a few months after Gsync availability if it transpires.

Cue the endless 'Gsync module has been available to fit since...'-yeah, and I really wanted to void my expensive monitor warranty!:o

They need to be bloody good if they want to take the gaming crown from the Swift especially that G-Sync isn't a handicap atm since Nvidia are holding GPU crown as well and will do for a while.

Definition: 'few' means three, or there abouts.

G-Sync Launch: Jan 2014 - Availability difference potentially over a year.

;)

Continue :p

I cant help but think that Freesync just sounds far too good to be true. Also, am I right in thinking i've bought the one AMD card (280x) that wont support it?

Then you'd have bought the ready made one with the warranty.

I'd be surprised if there's freesync monitors available and ready to buy this year, AMD almost always miss their deadlines :p

Considering the first monitor landed very late in July in the UK, my interpretation is a few months-again if it transpires.

Voiding warranty doesn't cut it on a personal level for most-the lack of users adding the module and voiding warranty themselves was evident enough.

Never saw any from the big retailers.

You could be onto something there.:D

It was available from the place in Bolton from very early on this year...with warranty. Only select retailers world wide were given this hense why you didn't see it everywhere.

This is good news for people waiting on FreeSync...... when this ultimately gives issues, will it be called FreeSync Beta ?

I want 1440p @144hz at a price range I happy to pay. FreeSync to me is just a bonus. If i like it or not i'll like to find out.

Will be interested in the first FreeSync monitor reviews, see if the result is as good as the advertising promises. To me, Free/G-Sync should provide the perfect accompaniment to 4K by providing smooth games even when there isn't enough GPU grunt to hit 60FPS, but I guess we'll find out in a few months (or longer).

New tech is always exciting, and I'm pleased to see the improvement in monitor technology that variable timings produces/promises.

Very true, this new tech will benefit 4k most and make it playable with current tech.

About one of the worst offenders regarding anything CS, don't trust them with manufacturers warranty(first hand experience) never mind their own, explains why I missed it.
