I'm interested in opinions and impressions, I'm planning on a card and monitor upgrade within a few months and do not know which way to go.

Here's a video comparing ghosting between certain monitors although I'm unsure how much of the difference is sync type related. Hence the thread to learn more before I spend hard earned money.

FreeSync vs G-Sync Ghosting Comparison

Here's a quote from Allyn Malventano (PcPer man) regarding the ghosting

"...but FreeSync / adaptive sync *are* introducing it. This is an issue that was corrected years ago in constant refresh rate LCDs, and continued to be corrected with G-Sync. The issue is now re-introduced with current non-G-Sync VRR panels. Whoever's fault it is is not relevant to the fact that ghosting *is* present in the first three FreeSync panels we have looked at so far."

I can notice the ghosting on my BenQ. Others say they can't.

It's definitely there though in my opinion. Another quote:

Just tried it here. AMA options are off, high, and premium. Default is high. Changed between all three settings with the FreeSync windmill demo running and saw no change in ghosting at all (it still does it).

I was thinking of going with AMD gpu and freesync monitor but I'm really sensitive to motion blur/judder so looks like I'll pay the premium to go nvidia, otherwise it will annoy the he'll out of me and ill be regretting it

I've not seen the freesync ones, so can't comment on them - however the swift, although expensive, is an excellent monitor.

The ghosting isn't anything to do with Freesync..

I can make this Display ghost with or without Freesync just by putting it back to factory default..

Ideally you need something that can record at a high framerate and then can be slowed down.

The pcper video was captured at 240fps then slowed down.

Uploading a video now, its hard to tell because of the camera extra blur but I think you get the idea.

I start of at 40% no over glow of the writing, then at stock 50% you see hopefully what I trying to capture..

As above though high speed footage is really needed..

Surely ghosting is just an artefact of the sample-and-hold LCD display technology? I see it on my nearly 6 year old NEC AMVA monitor (only in dark areas and the ghosting usually appears in red).

Cheers bud,

Sorry i know you've said before but what settings are you using to eliminate/reduce the ghosting please?

NP
My Setting

Sorry for not coming back here and replying till now but after starting this thread I noticed that for whatever reason the graphics card section was where it was being discussed rather than here in the monitors sections, Thanks for the replies guy's.

It seems that there is an issue with ghosting although not everyone has an issue with it. So the question becomes what is the cause? Is it something at the monitor end or is it something software can fix? If software will it be similar to having game drivers, IE: you have to download a particular driver for a particular monitor, I don't mean on a regular basis but as a one off. I suppose it's going to take a while for them to get to the bottom of it and let us know. Still I have at least until the 390x is released to wait and see which way to go. I would have probably had my monitor already but fortunately the LG 21:9's got delayed so now I'll wait on the monitor too.
